There are various spellings of the last name, ie. Van De Wege, Vandewege, VanDeWige, Vanderwege, Van Der Wege, etc.

First Marriage:

Martinus Van De Wege & Esther Elizabeth Van Driel Martinus Van De Wege & Esther Elizabeth Van Driel were married on April 11, 1835 in Terneuzen, Zeeland, Netherlands. At the time of their marriage, Martinus was age 20 & Esther Elizabeth was age 17. They had 10 children, born between 1837-1853 in the Netherlands. Based on birthplaces of their children, Martinus & Elizabeth were living in Terneuzen, Zeeland, Netherlands in 1837 & 1838. They were living in Hoek, Zeeland, Netherlands in 1841 & 1842, but had returned to Terneuzen, Zeeland, Netherlands in 1846. They were living in Bruinisse, Schouwen-Duiveland, Zeeland, Netherlands in 1851 & 1853. Martinus emigrated from the Netherlands to America about 1854, probably with Martinus's brother Adrian, who immigrated with his family to they USA that year. I do not find Dutch death records for Elizabeth or any of the children except Johanna & Maria (1842), so at this time I assume that they also went to American in 1854. I have not found record of Esther Elizabeth or children Jan, Jacomina or Johannes in the US at this time. Esther Elisabeth possibly died on the trip to America. Esther Elizabeth had died by January 15, 1858 when Martinus was married second to Johanna TeBrinke in Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin. See below for more information on the second marriage.

Janna married Jan van Esch/Es on February 14, 1857 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. At the time of their marriage, Jan was age 32 and Janna was age 19. In 1860, Jan Van Es is listed in Holland, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin as a laborer in the household of Isaak DeJonge with no wife listed with him, and on February 7, 1862 he was married again to Jane Smit(h), also in Wisconsin. Johanna married Cornelis Nousen, on April 4, 1857 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There is a Cornelis Nausen who is listed as serving in the Civil War in 1863, but I do not find him on the US census in 1860. At some time Cornelis and Johanna returned to the Netherlands. Johanna Vandewege Nousen died on February 11, 1904 in Terneuzen, Zeeland, Netherlands. Her death record is listed on the Dutch site www.wiewaswie.nl and states that she was married, that her "partner" was Cornelis Nousen and that her parents were Martinus van de Wege and Ester Elisabeth van Driel.
