There is a record for son George's marriage in Hall Co., NE on Sept. 30, 1894 that lists George's parents as John Schleicher & Katie Kern, with witnesses Conrad Clauss (Katie's father) & Mrs. Catherine Schleicher (George's mother). Katie is listed as widowed on the 1900 & 1910 censuses of Grand Island, Hall Co., NE, living with her younger son Gottlieb. Katharine Elizabeth "Katie" Kern Schleicher died on May 24, 1914 in Grand Island, Hall Co., Nebraska. She is buried in the Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, Hall, Nebraska under the name K. Schleicher.
