THE FAMILY OF JOHANNES CLAUS & MARGARETHA VOGLER
| Johannes Claus & Margaretha Vogler | Johannes Claus & Margaretha Vogler were married about 1823 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. They had 9 children, born between 1824 to 1848. Johannes Claus died sometime after 1847, and Margaretha died sometime after Feb. 1848. Both probably died in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia, but I do not have records for that at this time. |
The Children of Johannes Claus & Margaretha Vogler:
| 1)Johannes Claus | Johannes Claus was born on January
11, 1824 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Johannes married Margaretha
Sinner on January 29, 1846 in Russia. They had at least 6 children born between
1847 to 1870, but 3 of these children died before the age of 3. Margaretha died
sometime between 1870 to 1879. Johannes emigrated to America about 1879 with his
sons Johannes (John) & Adam. Johannes is listed at age 65 in the household
of his married son John on the 1880 census of Grafton, Fillmore Co., NE. In 1895,
Johannes' son Adam married Dora Claus, who was the daughter of his brother Conrad,
listed below. I believe that Johannes was married second to Maggie in 1900,
and that they are the John & Maggie Claus listed on the 1900 census of Fairfield
City, Clay Co., Nebraska and on the 1910 census of Hastings, Adams Co., Nebraska.
Johannes Claus died on November 06, 1914, probably in Nebraska. He is
buried in the Sutton cemetery, Sutton, Clay Co., NE Notes for Johannes Claus
| 2)Elisabeth Claus | Elisabeth Claus was born in 1826 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. I have no other information for her. Elisabeth Claus probably died before July 1833, because her parents named a daughter Elisabeth that year. | |
| 3)Georg Claus | Georg Claus was born on February 16, 1828 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Georg married Anna Maria Kaiser on February 03, 1849 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. They had 5 children born between 1849 to 1859. Georg Claus died sometime after 1859, probably in Russia, but not for sure. | |
| 4)Peter Claus | Peter Claus was born on March 20, 1830 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Peter married Luisa Popp on January 27, 1853 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. They had at least one daughter, born in 1856. Peter Claus died on March 21, 1860 in Norka Colony, Saratov, Russia. | |
| 5)Elisabeth Claus | Elisabeth Claus was born on July 4, 1833 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Elisabeth married Martin Weitzel on February 16, 1854 in Russia. Elisabeth Claus died sometime after 1854, probably in Russia, but not for sure. | |
| 6)Heinrich Claus | Heinrich Claus was born on November 19, 1837 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Heinrich married Elisabeth Zilch on February 10, 1859 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. The Pleve chart does not list any children for them. Heinrich Claus probably died before July 1877 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. His wife Elizabeth remarried Heinrich Weigandt on July 10, 1877 in Norka. | |
| 7)Dorothea Claus | Dorothea Claus was born on January 14, 1841 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. I do not have any additional information for her. | |
| 8) Adam Claus | Johann Adam Claus was born on August 22, 1846
in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Adam married Margaretha "Maggie"
in 1870 in Russia. They had 9 children. The family immigrated to America sometime
between 1891 to 1893, settling first in Sutton and Kearney, Nebraska. They are
listed on the 1900 census of Kearney, Buffalo Co., NE. Adam's obituary indicates
that the family moved to Colorado about 1900, although I have not found them on
the 1910 census at this time. Adam & Maggie are listed on the 1920 census
of Windsor, Weld Co., CO. Johann Adam Claus died on January 18, 1923 in Windsor,
Weld Co., CO. His obituary stated that 5 of his children were still living
at the time of his death. Maggie died in 1934 in Gering, NE. Notes for Johann Adam Claus
| 9)Conrad Claus | Conrad Claus was born on February
21, 1848 in Norka, Saratov Province, Russia. Conrad and Catherine "Katie"
Miller were married about 1873 in Norka, Saratov Russia, and they had 6 children.
On the 1894 marriage record of their daughter Katie, her parents are listed as
Conrad Claus & Katie Miller. Katie died between 1887 to 1890 in Norka; Conrad
remarried Eva Elisabeth Brehm on March 25, 1890 in Norka and they had 6
more children. Conrad, Elizabeth, and 7 children are on the passenger list of
the Augusta Victoria, which left Hamburg, Germany on July 10, 1891 and arrived
in New York City, NY on July 20, 1890. The obit of Conrad's daughter Katie states
that the family lived in Sutton, Clay Co., NE for 6 months, and then came to Grand
Island, Hall Co., NE. Conrad & sons Adam & John are listed in the household
of his married daughter Katie Claus Schleicher on the 1900 census of Grand Island,
Hall Co., NE, but Elisabeth and the other children are not listed with them and
I haven't found them as of yet. Possibly Elizabeth went to stay with relatives
for the birth of son Henry, who was born about that time in Nebraska or Kansas.
The family moved from Nebraska to Colorado sometime between 1900 to 1910. Conrad
& Elisabeth are on the 1910, 1920 & 1930 censuses of Windsor, Weld Co.,
CO. Conrad Claus died in 1931 in Windsor, Weld Co., CO. Elisabeth died
in 1934 in Windsor, Weld Co., CO. |
