Randolph Co., IL - License & permission to marry were granted to Mr. Samuel Dyer and Miss Sarah Jane Mann on Oct. 27, 1863. The marriage was actually performed by E.M. Been, Justice of the ? (last word is hard to read) on Oct. 29, 1863. The Justice sat down and recorded these facts on a certificate dated Nov. 17, 1863 - apparently that's where the mixup came about the dates for the marriage on Samuel's pension papers. I still say if their first child was born Dec. 9, 1863 that it was probably an interesting wedding!

Marriage affadavits from Pension records:
APPLICATION FOR ACCRUED PENSION (WIDOW'S) - State of Missouri, County of Lawrence. On this 7th day of June, 1886, personally appeared Sarah J. Dyer, who, being duly sworn, declares that she is the lawful widow of Samuel Dyer, deceased; that he died on 10th day of April, 1886; that he had been granted a pension by certificate No. 145.058 which is herewith returned; that he had been paid the pension by the Pension Agent at Topeka, Kansas up to the 4th day of March 1886; after which date he had not been employed or paid in the Army, Navy, or Marine service of the United States; that she was married to the said Samuel Dyer on the 29th day of October, 1863, at residence of her father in Randolph County in the state of Illinois; that her name before said marriage was Sarah J. Mann; that she hereby makes application for the pension which had accrued on aforesaid certificate to the date of death; and that her residence is near the city of Mt. Vernon, County of Lawrence, State of Missouri, and her post office address is Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Signed Sarah J. Dyer
CERTIFICATE OF RECORD OF MARRIAGE dated Sept. 14, 1886. States that Samuel Dyer & Mary Jane Mann were married on the 17th day of November, AD 1863 by E.M. Been, Justice of the Peace. Signed by County Court Clerk of Randolph Co., IL, Louis Dudenbostel.
CERTIFICATE OF RECORD OF MARRIAGE dated Oct. 10, 1890. States that Samuel Dyer & Mary Jane Mann were married on the 17th day of November, AD 1863 by E.M. Been, Justice of the Peace. Signed by County Court Clerk of Randolph Co., IL, Louis Dudenbostel.
Above three documents are interesting because I found a book on Randolph County, IL records that states the October marriage date (in the affadavit by Sarah Jane) was the right one. Either one was probably a hasty affair - according to notes from Bob that John Elmer Dyer wrote down, his oldest brother William was born December 9, 1863, so Sarah was either almost 8 months pregnant or 8-1/2 months pregnant at the wedding depending on which date is correct!
1890 Special census of veterans - Sarah J., widow of Samuel Dyer. Living in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co., MO. Samuel Dyer listed as serving as a private in Co. H, regiment 4, IL infantry. Enlisted June 11, 1861, discharged Dec. 15, 1862
Sept 12 1892 - there is a record of a
Sarah Dyer marrying a Wilford H. Cannady on this date, but there is no mention
of this marriage in Sarah's obit.

Her husband Samuel Dyer, died in the year 1886 and in the year of 1898 she was married to Frank Wilson, who died in June of last year.
