Subject: Phillips info
My name is Cheryl Beach Amador and I am Beverly Setree's sister. I have been doing family research since I was 15 years old. I am 46 now. I am sending you an update on our family starting with our Grandfather Charles Lee Roy Christie. I have a book on the current Phillips family and if you would like to have a copy send me a snail mail address and I will mail you one. I try to keep up with the Phillips familes but some of the older people are dying and the rest are unable to attend the reunions and the younger folks don't seem to be interested in attending them any more.
My sister said you lived in Ohio so if you are able to come to the reunion I would love to meet you. It is interesting that you got the
Phillips family info from Ken Phillips. I only found one Ken Phillips in my database and I don't think he has ever been to our reunions and I know that we have been having them since the early 1900's. Maybe he just never knew that we had them.
Anyway, here is our family from Charles (actually he always went by Lee) and I can send you a book later. (It is not anything big...just
something that I did for the reunions.) After looking at the info that Ken had, it appears to me that he got alot of our family info from a John Phillips who had done a book back in the 70's on the Phillips line and John also had a lot of our info wrong. Looking forward to hearing from you and I would be interested in your family lines back to Thomas H. Phillips.

MARY EASTER PHILLIPS was born October 23, 1866, a great surprise to her parents as it had been 14 years since Addison was born. Mary was named for her aunt Easter (Phillips) Feaster of Lawrence County, Missouri, according to Mary's daughter Bernice. Mary's middle name is said to have been pronounced "Ester."
Mary was orphaned in 1881 when she was 15. Although she often said she'd wished she'd died with her parents, she is remembered for her wit and good humor. Mary lived with her brothers, alternately, after her parents died. She was called "Little Mary" because she was small, much smaller than Mary (Spear) Phillips, who was called "Tall Mary."
Mary married Elvin Leroy Christie March 15, 1891 in Scottsburg, Indiana. Elvin was born in 1869. He was a son of Andrew Christie Jr. and grandson of Andrew Sr. Mary and Elvin had Charles Leroy in 1892, Hazel in 1894, Avis Evelyn in 1900 and Bernice in 1904. Between 1894 and 1901 Mary lost three other daughteres: Blanche at nine months, Delia Mae at 22 months and Grace at two months. Mary died December 26, 1940. Daughter Hazel Wright recalls: "While she was on her deathbed, she would ask me to go get her mother's Bible and show it to whoever other friends were there." Hazel remembers that Mary always kept a large photograph of John T. and Emeline on her wall and that "a short time before she went into a coma she asked me to bring their picture in her bedroom and hang it on the wall at the foot of the bed so she could look at it all day long ... I suppose that picture was burned up in the fire." Elvin died in 1954. (John T., Tom)
