Kari,

I thought I had better send this to you privately rather than to MOLAWREN or I would get lookup requests for Greene County records, too.

John Calvin Delzell married Levina Elinor Kelly, 13 Oct. 1859, No. 88, Book B, p. 190.

1880 Census, Greene Co., Boone Twp. #170, #179:
Dellzell, Levina, 39, female, widow, SC, TN, SC
Sarah, 14, dau, TX, TN,SC
William, 12, son, MO, TN, SC
James, 8, son, MO, TN, SC
Anna, 3, dau, MO, TN, SC
John C., 5/12 (Dec.), MO, TN, SC

#168, #177 is your John M. Kelley, 41, consumption, and Margaret A., 41. Do you have data on his family? Tombstone?

Looks like John C. Delzell died in 1879 or early 1880, but didn't find anything in my newspaper abstracts about death or probate.

Also, though William, 12, was reportedly born in Mo., they are not in 1870 Greene Co. census transcription index though there are some Delzells of various spellings.

1860 Census, Greene Co., Cass Twp., #616, #616:
D. S. Delsell, farmer, 44, m, TN, $2500, $500
William, farmer, 15, m, MO
#617, #617:
John C. Delsell, 23, m, TN, $0, $300
Lavina E., 20, f, SC

1850 Census, Greene Co., Cass Twp., #1670, #1670
Delzell, Smith, 35, m, TN
Ann, 41, Tn,
John C., 13, TN
Margarette A., 12, TN
Mary J., 11, TN
William H., 7, MO
Amanda E., 6, MO
Julia R., 1, MO

So John's mother, Ann, apparently died in the 1850s. His father, D. Smith, probably died in 1867. I found in newspaper abstracts, p. 29, 18 July 1867, D. S. Delzell (Probate).

I don't have Cass Twp. cemetery inscriptions which is probably where D. Smith, Ann, and John C. are buried. I did find in vol II for Boone Twp. and Ash Grove, in Ash Grove Cemetery, old part, p. 67
Kelley, Cora D., 1880 - 1913
Kelley, F. M., 1839-1930, father
Kelley, F. M., 1845-1920, mother [initials were same for both in transcriptions!]
Delzell, W. H., 31 Mar 1843-31 Jan 1914
Delzell, Adelaide H., 26 Apr 1850 - 18 July 1928

This is probably John's brother. They were also in the census. My guess is that the probate records got Levina's husband's initials wrong. I have seen this mistake before. Even worse, my g-gf Hollingsworth gave my Grandmother Cameron's surname as Samuels in his pension file. There was a relative married to a Samuels, but it was not my grandmother.

Anyway, I think this settles the issue of Levina Kelley's husband and family. I didn't look for the other children.

Ross

Note from K - the F. M. Kelley above is Francis M. Kelley who was born 1839 in KY. His wife was also named Francis M.. They are on the 1910 census of Ash Grove, Greene Co., MO. From birth dates of children they came from KY to MO in 1881-1885. Cora is their daughter, born 1880 in KY. I do not know if they are any relation to Alfred H. Kelley & his family.
