THE FAMILY OF ROBERT PRESSLEY & ELIZABETH CLARK
| Robert Pressley & Elizabeth Clark | Robert Pressley
& Elizabeth Clark were married on December 14, 1809 in Abbeville, SC and they
had at least 9 children. They are listed on the 1810 census of Abbeville,
SC. According to birthplaces of their children they moved to Ohio about 1810.
The family is listed on 1816 tax records for Preble Co., OH. They are listed on
the 1820 census of Israel, Preble Co., OH. The family moved from Ohio back to
South Carolina sometime between 1820 to 1823, and their last known child was born
in 1823 in South Carolina. (They had another son born 1825-1830 that I don't have
a birthplace for). Robert Pressley is listed on the 1830 census of Abbeville,
SC at age 40-50 with 9 children in the household all under age 20, but there is
not a female the age to be Elizabeth in the household. This is probably census
taker error, because Elizabeth Pressley is listed as a head of household on the
1840 census. I believe Robert Pressley died sometime after 1830 and probably
before 1840 in Abbeville SC or Randolph Co., IL. There is also a household
headed by Elizabeth Pressley on the 1840 census of Randolph Co., IL living next
to the household of Benjamin Pressley with numbers that would fit for this family.
I have not found Elizabeth on the 1850 census at this time. Elizabeth Clark
Pressley died sometime after 1840, and possibly before 1850 in Randolph Co., IL.
There is an Elisabeth Pressley in Rush Co., IN in 1840 & 1850 that is
Elisabeth Weed Pressley, widow of Robert's brother (?) John Pressley. Notes for Robert Pressly Notes for Elizabeth Clark |
The Children of Robert Pressly & Elizabeth Clark
| David Pressley | David Pressley was born about 1811
in Ohio. There is a male the right age to be him listed in the household of
Robert Pressley on the 1820 census of Israel, Preble Co, Ohio. His father returned
with the family to Abbeville, SC sometime between 1820-1823, and there is a male
the right age to be David listed in the household of Robert Pressley on the 1830
census of Abbeville, SC. The family moved from Abbeville SC to Randolph Co., IL
sometime between 1830 to 1835. David became a Physician by occupation. David married
Mary about 1837, and they had 6 children. Based on birthplaces of their
children, they were in Indiana in 1838. They are possibly the David Pressley household
that is listed on the 1840 census of Centre Twp, Rush Co., IN. David & Mary
are listed with their family on the 1850 census of Pike, Warren Co., Indiana.
Based on birthplaces of their children, they moved from Indiana to Iowa between
1851 to 1858, and they are listed on the 1860 census of Otter, Warren Co., Iowa.
They are listed on the 1870 census of Dutch Creek, Washington Co., IA. Mary died
sometime between 1870 to 1880. David is listed as widowed on the 1880 census of
Squaw Twp, Warren Co., OH, living in the household of his married son William.
I have not found him on the 1900 census at this time. David Pressley died sometime
after 1880 and probably before 1900 in Warren Co., Iowa. Notes for David Pressley
| Nancy Pressley | Nancy Pressley was born on December
17, 1815, probably in Preble Co., Ohio. Her father is listed in 1816 on tax
records for Preble Co., Ohio. There is a female the right age to be her listed
in the household of Robert Pressley on the 1820 census of Israel, Preble Co, Ohio.
Her father returned with the family to Abbeville, SC sometime between 1820-1823,
and there is a female the right age to be Nancy listed in the household of Robert
Pressley on the 1830 census of Abbeville, SC. The family moved from Abbeville
SC to Randolph Co., IL sometime between 1830 to 1835. Nancy married Samuel
Alexander Mann on August 20, 1835 in Randolph Co., IL and they had 7 children.
At the time of their marriage, Alexander was age 20 and Nancy was age 19. The
family is listed on the 1840 census of Randolph Co., IL. A Randolph Co., IL
history states that Nancy and 3 of their daughters died in a cholera epidemic
in 1849. I think this may be an error and only 2 of her daughters died. Nancy
and her daughters Caroline and Louisa are listed on the 1850 Mortality index,
which lists deaths that occurred from July 1849 to June 1850. Date of death for
all three was July 1849, and cause of death for all is listed as "flux".
Nancy was age 34 when she died, Caroline was age 2, and Louisa was age 4 months.
On the 1850 census of Twp 5S Range 7W Randolph Co., IL, Alexander and four of
his children are living with his father, Robert M. Mann, who is listed as head
of household. The Family of Samuel Alexander Mann & Nancy Pressley Notes for Samuel Alexander Mann Notes for Nancy Presley
| Unknown Daughter Pressley | Unknown Daughter Pressley
was born between 1815-1820, probably in Preble Co., OH. There is a female
the right age to be her (0-5) listed in the household of Robert Pressley on the
1820 census of Israel, Preble Co, Ohio. Her father returned with the family to
Abbeville, SC sometime between 1820-1823, and there is a female the right age
to be this daughter (age 10-15) listed in the household of Robert Pressley on
the 1830 census of Abbeville, SC. I believe her father died before 1840, and there
is a household on 1840 census of Randolph Co., IL with head of household named
as Elizabeth Presley and numbers that would fit this family. The household is
next door to the household of Benjamin Presley. There is not a female the right
age to be this unknown daughter (20-25) on the 1840 census, so perhaps she died
or married before that year. Unknown daughter Pressley died sometime after
1830. I have no further information about her. Notes for Unknown Daughter Pressley
| Benjamin Pressley | Benjamin Pressley was born about 1816 in Preble
Co., OH. His father is on 1816 tax records for Preble Co., Ohio. There is
a male the right age to be Benjamin listed in the household of Robert Pressley
on the 1820 census of Israel, Preble Co, Ohio. His father returned with the family
to Abbeville, SC sometime between 1820-1823, and there is a male the right age
to be Benjamin listed in the household of Robert Pressley on the 1830 census of
Abbeville, SC. The family moved from Abbeville SC to Randolph Co., IL sometime
between 1830 to 1835. Benjamin married Rachel Cohorn Goddard in 1839 and
they had 2 children, born in 1840 & 1844. The family is listed on the 1840
census of Randolph Co., IL, living next door to the household of Benjamin's widowed
mother Elizabeth and 2 households away from William Mann. Rachel died on January
03, 1846 in Sparta, Randolph Co., IL. Benjamin was remarried to Mrs. Ruth Whitaker
on April 8, 1847 in Randolph Co., IL. Benjamin Pressley died sometime after

Co., IL his son Reuben is listed at age 10 in the household of William Morris,
and his daughter Elizabeth, age 7, is listed in the household of Charles Beatty. Notes for Benjamin Pressley
| Robert A. Pressley, Jr. | Robert A. Pressley, Jr.
was born about 1817 in Preble Co., Ohio. There is a male the right age to
be him listed in the household of Robert Pressley on the 1820 census of Israel,
Preble Co, Ohio. His father returned with the family to Abbeville, SC sometime
between 1820-1823, and there is a male the right age to be Robert Jr. listed in
the household of Robert Pressley on the 1830 census of Abbeville, SC. I believe
his father died before 1840, and there is a household on the 1840 census of Randolph
Co., IL with head of household named as Elizabeth Presley and numbers that would
fit this family. The household is next door to the household of Benjamin Presley.
Robert married Eleanor Huey on March 23, 1844 in Randolph Co., IL and they
had 5 children born between 1845 to 1860. The family is listed on the 1850, 1860
& 1870 censuses of Randolph Co., IL. In 1870 the town is listed as Twp 5,

on the 1830 census of Abbeville, SC. The family moved from Abbeville SC to Randolph
Co., IL or IN sometime between 1830 to 1835. I believe his father died before
1840, and there is a household on the 1840 census of Randolph Co., IL with head
of household named as Elizabeth Presley and numbers that would fit this family.
The household is next door to the household of Benjamin Presley. It is possible
that Elizabath moved from Indiana to Illinois (or vice versa) in 1840 and is listed
on both censuses. The household headed by Samuel P. Presley in 1840 in Rush Co.
IN has a male and female, both age 20-30. This would fit for Samuel (age 22),
but who is the female? Did he marry Unknown before he married Nancy Huey? Samuel
married Nancy Jane Huey on March 18, 1843 in Randolph Co., IL and they
had 8 children, born between 1845 to 1868. The family is listed on the 1850, 1860

Range 6. Samuel Pressley died in November 1870 of pneumonia in Twp 5, Range
6, in Randolph Co., IL at age 51. He is listed on the 1870 Mortality Index
there, but is listed as being born in Tennessee. Nancy is listed as widowed on
the 1880 census of Central, Randolph Co., IL. Samuel's occupation is listed as
Farmer on all census records. In 1900 his son John is living in Randolph Co.,
IL, and his son Henry is a boarder in the household of John A. Mann in St. Clair
Co., IL. Notes for Samuel Pressley

his father died before 1840, and there is a household on the 1840 census of Randolph
Co., IL with head of household named as Elizabeth Presley and numbers that would
fit this family. The household is next door to the household of Benjamin Presley.
There is a male on the 1840 census that is the right age group to be this son,
I do not have any further information about him. Unknown Son probably died
after 1840, but I don't know when or where. Notes for Unknown Son #1 Pressley
| Jane Pressley | Jane Pressley was born about 1823
in South Carolina. Her father returned with the family to Abbeville, SC between
1825-1830, and there is a female the right age to be Jane listed in the household
of Robert Pressley on the 1830 census of Abbeville, SC. The family moved from
