Robert M. Mann Bible Cover1817Cover of family Bible of Robert M. & Mary (Houston) Mann. Bible dated 1817. When this information was sent to me (Kari Northup) by Mary Mann Dains in 2001 the Bible was in possession of Peggy Cicka Wade. Peggy and Mary are both descended from Robert & Mary's son Samuel Alexander Mann through Samuel's son Samuel Henry Mann. I am also a descendant of Samuel Alexander Mann through his daughter Sarah Jane Mann Dyer. The number 1817 printed at the bottom of the page probably indicates the year of publication.

Mann considered the Bible to be his. The births, marriages and deaths recorded in the Bible are of Robert M. Mann's children, although the marriage of Samuel to first wife Nancy Pressley is included.
Robert M. Mann Transcript Page 11817Notarized copy of a typed transcript of the Robert M. Mann Bible that was used for DAR submission. This transcript indicates that the Bible was printed in 1815, but the 1817 on the cover (above) indicates to me that it was printed that year. Page 1 of the transcript lists the Marriages and some of the Births recorded in the Bible. This transcript was typed and notarized by Louise M. Torrens, whose at that time was licensed as a Notary Public through October 4, 1962.

Family of Robert M. Mann & Mary Houston page 32000Third page of Family Group Record for Robert Morril Mann & Mary Houston by Mary Mann Dains. Printed February 4, 2000. Continues notes and sources for information on Robert M. Mann family, and also for son Samuel Alexander Mann. It includes this description of Samuel Alexander Mann: "Large boned tall man with fair complexion. Remained on family farm. Married 3 wives and had 10 children. He was a loyal member of the United Presbyterian Church of Preston, IL. In 1906 at a family reunion, "Uncle Alex Mann" (who) was the oldest resident in Randolph Co. called the meeting to order. It was stated that there were 319 descendants of the Mann family living."
Pedigree Elizabeth Ann Mann2000Ahnentafel Chart for Elizabeth Ann Mann by Mary Mann Dains. This chart traces Elizabeth's Houston ancestors as being: parents, Robert Morril Mann & Mary Houston; grandparents, John Houston Jr. & Jean Guthrey Livingston; g-grandparents, John Houston Sr. and Else. Printed February 4, 2000. I believe this is correct in stating that John Houston who was married to Jean Guthrie/Guthrey was Mary Houston's father. I am not sure that Jean was her mother as Mary was born in 1775 and there is evidence that Jean Guthrie/Guthrey was born in 1770, so she was probably John Houston's second wife. I also am not sure that John Houston & Else Armstrong were the parents of John Houston who married Jean Guthrie/Guthrey. They did have a son named John, but online trees indicate that he married Mary Wadell. As the same trees also indicate that Mary Wadell married Joseph LeMasters in 1792 and had 5 children between 1793-1807, more research is needed.

Lists dates for other marriages of Samuel A. Mann, and notes including sources for the information included in the family record. Includes description of Samuel Alexander Mann quoted above, and also includes this description of Samuel Henry Mann: "Medium build, fair complexion with blue eyes. He farmed 60 acres and raised 5 children to adulthood. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served as an elder 1910-1959. Following his family tradition he was a Democrat. He was a very intelligent man and would have made a good professional. He loved puzzles and word games. He never lived more than 9 miles from his birthplace."
