THE FAMILY OF ALFRED KELLEY & MILLIE SPRINGFIELD
| Alfred Harrison Kelley & Millie Springfield |
Alfred Harrison Kelley & Millie Springfield were married on October
23, 1835 in Greenville, SC and they had at 12 children. (Millie's sister Juliette
later married Alfred's brother Harrison in 1843.) According to birthplaces of
their children, Alfred & Millie were in TN in 1836, but had returned to Greenville,
SC by 1839. They are listed on the 1840 census of Greenville District, SC. Alfred
& Millie returned to TN in 1841 and had a child there, but they moved to Greene
Co., Missouri about 1842. The family is listed on the 1850, 1860, 1870 & 1800
censuses of Boone Township, Greene Co., MO. There are some Greene Co., MO court
records that indicate that Alfred & three others were indicted for selling
liquor without a license in 1858, but the charge was dismissed in 1859. Alfred
is listed on the 1850 & 1860 censuses as being a Blacksmith, and on the 1870
& 1880 censuses as being a Farmer. Alfred died on May 12, 1889 in Ash Grove,
Greene Co., MO. Millie died on May 11, 1891 in Ash Grove, Greene Co., MO.
Alfred & Millie are buried at the Kelley Cemetery, located in Sec. 15, T 30N,
R24W, by Central Church, 1 mi. east and 1 1/2 mi. north of Ash Grove. I have copies
of probate records for both Alfred & Millie. Millie's name is spelled Millie
on most of the probate records, but it is spelled Milley on at least 2 of the
papers, and also on her tombstone. Thanks to Donna Sparlin for the photos of tombstone
for Alfred at left. (Click on the link to view a larger image of it.) |
The children of Alfred Kelley & Millie Springfield:
| 1. Delia Ann Kelley | Delia Ann Kelley
was born about 1836 in TN. Her parents moved from Tennessee to South Carolina
by 1839, and they are listed on the 1840 census of Greenville District, SC. They
returned from South Carolina to Tennessee by 1841, but moved from Tennessee to
MO in 1842 when Delia was about age 6. Delia is listed at age 14 with her parents
on the 1850 census of Boone Township, Greene Co., MO. Delia married Annanias
Phillips on May 15, 1853 in Greene Co., MO and they had 5 children. The family
is on the 1860 & 1870 censuses of Ozark Twp., Lawrence Co., MO. I think this
photo may be Delia about 1870, but it is not for sure that it is her. It was found
in the photos of Betty Belle Dyer, who was one of Delia's g-granddaughters. Annanias
died on August 18, 1873 from fumes in a well he was digging - at the time their
children were ages 6 to 19. Delia Ann Kelley Phillips died in August of 1879
of dysentery. She is listed on the 1880 Mortality Schedule for Buck Prairie
Twp, Aurora, Lawrence Co., MO as (no name given) Phillips (female) age 43. On
the 1880 census their children Thomas & Pernia are living with their older
sister Mary Phillips Hampton & her husband. I have not been able to find their
daughters Martha or Millie Jane in 1880, but they are listed as heirs in their
grandfather's probate papers in 1891. Delia Ann & her sister Levina both had
children who married children of Joseph Moore & Nancy Hulstine: Delia Ann's

Her parents returned from SC to TN in 1841, and then moved to Missouri in 1842. This unknown daughter is not listed with the family on the 1850 census of Greene Co., MO. correct since they are in SC in 1840.) His parents are listed on the 1840 census
