http://www.uh.edu/~jbutler/gean/vincentdyeold.html
Vincent Dye, Son of John Laurens Dey
Vincent Dye - born in 1720/1724 in Eastern Division, Co., NJ and died on August 4, 1796 in Prince William County, Virginia (red dot on the map to the below). Married Sarah Artepe on September 1, 1746 in Middlesex County, New Jersey. She was born on January 9, 1727 in Somerset, New Jersey and died on October 2, 1797 in Prince William, Virginia. He was Ezekiel Dye's uncle.

Regina Barry provided the text of a marriage bond between Amos Dye and Mary Chamberlin:

[ All of these marriage bonds may be seen on FHC film 0802937. NJ Marriage Bonds. Vol. C & D are on the film. It is individual marriage bonds (not clerks copies), signed and/or marked by the parties so named. The numbers correspond to a stamped number in the upper right corner of each bond. The bonds are either completely hand-writen (or in the case of Amos Dye) pre-printed, with names and amounts filled in by hand. (Note: date of bond generally does not indicate date of marriage)]

An image of this Marriage Bond is also available.

"Vincent and his family moved to Prince William County, Virginia (red on the map above) around 1782 as he appears on a tax list for that year." Vincent Dye appears on the Prince William County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax 1787 - List "A" (Arnold Hovey - 2/10/98).

Vincent and Sarah had 14-15 children:

Daniel Dye - born July 31, 1747 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and died January 24, 1825 in Monroe County, Ohio. He married Abigail Hutchinson on March 24, 1773 in New Jersey. In 1813 he became the first permanent white settler in Monroe County, Ohio.

John Dye - born 1749 in New Jersey and died in April 1798 in Prince William County, Virginia. He appears on Personal Property Tax list A in Virginia. He married Mary Hixon and they had at least 5 children:

Vincent Dye - born in 1751 - appears on Personal Property Tax list A in Virginia. He married Phoebe Hoagland on October 12, 1775 in Middlesex County, New Jersey.

Enoch Dye - born in 1753, Eastern Division, New Jersey and died on January 16, 1830 in Canton Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Canton Township is west of West Newton and Sewickley Creek. He married Rebecca Leet in 1781. She was born 1754-55 and died October 5, 1850.

Brown Dye - born in 1755 in Middlesex County, New Jersey - appears on Personal Property Tax list A in Virginia. Was Brown his grandmother's surname?

David Dye - born in 1757 in Middlesex County, New Jersey

Ruben Dye - born 1759 (Dye Data) or 1765 in Middlesex County, New Jersey. He appears on Personal Property Tax list A in Virginia in 1787. He appears on the 1810 census of Wood County, West Virginia in 1810 and appears to have moved into that area a few years earlier. He died on May 3. 1828 in Wirt County, West Virginia and is buried in the Beaucamp Cemetery in Elizabeth, West Virginia. [Bill Reynolds - nd2s1a@fcs-net.com] Ruben would have Ezekiel Dye Sr's cousin.

Eunice Dye - born in 1761 in Middlesex County, New Jersey

Rachel Dye - born in 1761 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and married Joseph Riley (1765-1825)

Sara Dye - born in 1763/4 in Middlesex County, New Jersey

Nancy Dye - born in 1765/7 in Middlesex County, New Jersey

Catherine "Caty?" Dye - born in Middlesex County, New Jersey 1767/9, died before 1797

Dussoway Dye - born in 1771, in Middlesex County, New Jersey and died before October 2, 1797
The name Dussoway (or another of a variety of spellings fascinates me. Kathy Smith sent me a copy of part of a brochure on the Du Sachoy family that makes for interesting reading.

Joseph Dye - born in Middlesex County, New Jersey 1772

William Dye, born in Middlesex County, New Jersey in 1775

A copy of the will of Vincent Dye is given in Dye Data, Special Edition 3.

Don--
Yes to all your questions. How much info do you want? My line is through Vincent and Sarah's other son, John, but I have info on all the children of Vincent and Sarah.
Vincent Dye is s/o John Laurens and Ann (Brown). He was born 7-20-1726 in Middlesex, NJ d 4-4-1796 Prince William VA and marr Sarah Arteps 9-1-1746. Dear Tomi,

I appreciate your input.......this has been a brick wall for me. Do you have a Family Group of Reuben Dye (incl. wife and children)?

What you are saying is the Mary that married Thomas was of this family.....right? And Reuben is the son of Vincent......right?

Who was Vincent's father and mother as I don't have any info. on this branch of the Dyes?

This line has been a nightmare for me........all help is greatly appreciated.

Bless you,

Don

Hi all
I am Tomi and I was reading these messages. I hope you don't mind if I add a piece of information to help you clear up your confusion.
I looked at my records and if you are discussing the family of Amos and Mary (Chamberlain) I have some info for you.
I have Amos and Mary Chamberlain had a son-John B. Dye. John B. Dye had two sons, Thomas and Henry. Thomas married a Mary Dye. You believe this is the dau of Henry.

I have the dau of Henry was born about 1835-per the 1850 Census she was listed at 15 years old. Therefore she wasn't even born in 1827 which is the marriage date of Thomas and his wife. Per the 1850 Census Thomas was in TX and his wife was listed at 41 years old, which means she was born about 1809. I agree with Kim Marion's evaluation in her message dated 2-21-2005 that the said Mary Dye is the dau of Reuben Dye, s/o Vincent and Sarah(Arteps). I found info on Reuben in the Hardesty's History record that Reuben had 6 sons and 1 dau. His sons William and Benjamin left VA and ended up in TX. Kim also noted that the 1870 TX census reflected the widow of Benjamin, Sarah, was living with Thomas and Mary.

I hope this helps you.
