Used to read cards and tea leaves. Also did astrology. A lot of people came to her - some believed in it so much that they wouldn't make plans until she had read for them. She read the Bible a lot and made notations in the margins, including:
1939 - Bible given at Christmas 1939 by Martha Sue & Lewis.
May 31, 1953 - Mary Ellen, Cecilia
Feb. 22, 1945 - I decide to advertise my readings.

Nellie Dye, 78, Dies At
Mrs. Nellie Dye, 78, 512 North Main Street, died at 6:30 o'clock Thursday evening at the McPherson hospital following two years of failing health.
Mrs. Dye was born on Sept. 23, 1879 at Princeton, Mo., daughter of Thomas and Evaline Wiggins (note from K: this should have said daughter of Thomas and Evaline Wiggins Goodin). She was married on Feb. 18, 1896 to Howard Sherman Dye of Arkansas City. Mr. Dye died on May 18, 1941. She was a member of the Methodist church and had lived in McPherson for 42 years.
Survivors include five sons, Thomas E. Dye, Honolulu; Lester A. Dye, Denver; Howard S. Dye Jr., Orlando Fla; Eldon N. Dye, Wichita; and Lewis N. Dye, Duncan, Okla; one sister, Jennie Dimmick, Independence, Kas.; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dye will be held Monday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Quiring Chapel with Rev. Paul Matthaei of the Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at Quirings on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery.
I (Kari Northup) went to the cemetery in Dec. 1998 and took a picture of their headstone - they are buried together and their is a note in the cemetery records that Howard Sherman's grave was moved from a different location in the cemetery at some point so assume it was done so that Nellie could be buried beside him.
Buried in McPherson cemetery in McPherson, KS. Last name on tombstone is listed as Goodwin, although Sarah Dye writes that she is sure her name at birth was Goodin.
