Note
- Mary Lucy "Lou" Fisher was the sister of John Samuel Dye who married
Mahettable Gerrard. Although they are living next door to each other, the above
John & Hattie Dye info is not consistent with the ages & children they
should have at that time. I do not find them anywhere else in 1870, so it may
be them with lots of census taker error. The family should be:
John Dye, age
32, b. KY
Mahettable, age 32, b. OH
Malinda (Lena), age 10
Thea Etta
(Ettie), age 9
Ida, age 4
Howard Sherman, age 3
Bertha, age 1
Mahettable
Gerrard Dye did have younger siblings with some of those names - but in 1870 her
younger siblings would be ages:
John Gerrard, age 31
Benjamin Gerrard, age
28
Ellen Gerrard, age 24
Joseph Gerrard, age 21
Lucy Gerrard, age 19
George

Ralph Helsel writes "My memory of him always brings to mind a cheerful & pleasant man. I stayed in McPherson as a freshman in High School attending Central Academy & College. I stayed half the year with B.F. Harmon and his wife. He was a business partner with my father (S.F. Helsel) and owed dad some in the closeout of the business. My board and room were payment for that debt. H.S. Dye would often come over, and he and Mr. Harmon would play dominoes. I could tell they were both very sharp at that game."

of the Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at Quirings on Sunday from
3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery.
I (Kari Northup) went to the cemetery in Dec. 1998 and took a picture of their headstone - they are buried together and their is a note in the cemetery records that Howard Sherman's grave was moved from a different location in the cemetery at some point so assume it was done so that Nellie could be buried beside him.
