From "History of Vermilion County" by H.W. Beckwith, published 1879:

"Hiram Dye, Georgetown, farmer and stock-raiser, was born in Fleming Co., KY on his father's farm, on the 4th of April, 1825, and lived there until 1841, when, with his parents, he came to Illinois and settled in Vermilion County. In 1853 he came to his present place. On the 22nd of March, 1855, he married Miss Sarah H. Leuman; she was born in Vermilion County, Illinois. They have three children: Wilson, Mary C. and Martha J. He owns five hundred and twenty acres in this county, which he has earned by his own labor and management. After he became of age he worked eight years for one hundred dollars a year. He has hauled many loads of apples to Chicago by ox team; he made his first trip about 1844. His parents, Lawrence and Mary Ann (Van Trease) Dye, were natives of Kentucky. They married there, and came here as stated. He is living in Elwood Township, this county, but she died about 1867."

Died Sept. 28, 1882. Buried Mt. Pisgah or Liberty Church Cemetery, Georgetown, Vermilion Co., Illinois.

Kari, and list,
Read through your new URL page with great interest. You have been doing a lot of research! Nicely presented.

Under Hiram Dye, if you wish, you could add this link

which is just my posting of your earlier work and the pictures from Gordon Everett Dye. If any of this is now thought to be in error, please tell me and I will make corrections. A link should not disagree with the page it is linked to! John Wilson Dye was certainly a handsome man. I note that you have him listed as Wilson Dye, was the name John Wilson incorrect?
