is under the names Simon Bone & Ettie Dye. Simon & Etta had a son in Illinois
in April 1884, but they moved to Kansas soon after that. The family is listed
on the 1885, 1895, 1900 & 1905 state & federal censuses of Cowley Co.,
KS (in 1885 & 1900 they are listed as living in Arkansas City, and in 1895

| Ida May Dye | Ida May Dye was born in November 1862 in Vermilion
Co., Illinois. some family trees list her middle name as Mayfield. Her father

states she was also living there in 1935. Ida May Dye McMillan Bone died after
May 1941, as she is listed in her brother's obituary as being Mrs. Ida Bone of
Xenia, Ohio. There are two listings on the Ohio Death Index on Ancestry.com
of women named Ida Bone who died on different dates in 1948, but not enough additional
information to tell if one of them is this Ida. Notes for Ida May Dye McMillan Bone
| Maggie Dye | Magdaline "Maggie" Dye was born sometime
between 1863 to 1870 in Vermilion Co. Illinois. Her father deserted the family
in 1877 when she was age 7 to 14. There is some confusion as to her birth year
- family records indicate that she was born in 1863, but the 1900 census states
that she was born in Nov 1870, and all census records I have found for her inconsistent
and have indicated birth years from 1866 to 1870. She is not listed with her mother
& siblings on the 1880 census and, and if she was born in 1870 she would only
have been age 10 at that time - I have not found her living anywhere in 1880,
so possibly the census taker just missed her. On the 1900 census of Danville,
Vermilion Co., IL she is listed as Margaret, age 30, a servant in the household
of Alex Gregory. Maggie married Charles Cossey about 1901, and
they had 3 children; only daughter Mahettable lived to adulthood. Maggie is listed
as being age 42 on the 1910 census of Fountain Creek Twp., Iriquois Co., Illinois.
Charles & Maggie moved from Illinois to Kansas sometime between 1910 to 1920.
They are listed on the 1920, 1930 & 1940 censuses of Leavenworth, Leavenworth
Co., Kansas. She is listed as Maggie, age 51, on the 1920, Magdaline, age 64 on
the 1930 census and Maggie, age 71 on the 1940 census. Magdaline "Maggie"
Dye Cossey died on May 14, 1941 in Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co, Kansas. She is
not mentioned in her brother Howard S. Dye's obituary as being one of his 3 surviving
sisters as he died four days after she did on May 18, 1941. Notes for Maggie Dye Cossey
| Howard S. Dye | Howard Sherman Dye was born
March 26, 1867 in Danville, Vermilion Co., IL. His father deserted the family
in 1877 wehn he was 10 years old. He is listed with his mother on the 1880 census
of Carroll Twp., Vermilion Co., IL. Howard married Mary Ellen "Nellie"
Goodin on Feb 18, 1896 in Arkansas City, Cowley Co., KS, and they had 6 children.
Howard Sherman was a minister & ordained Elder in the Free Methodist church,
and the family lived in several places in Kansas before settling in McPherson,
KS about 1920. They are listed on the 1900 census of Creswell, Cowley Co., KS;
on the 1905 census of Halstead, Harvey Co., KS; on the 1910 census of Girard City,
Crawford Co., KS; on the 1915 state census of Manhattan, Riley Co., KS, and on
the 1920 census of McPherson, McPherson Co., KS. In 1925 Howard Sherman left the
church because of an extramarital affair. Family story is that Nellie divorced
him, and he is listed as being divorced on the 1930 census, although Nellie is
living at a different address & listed as married. He is listed on the 1940
census of McPherson as being divorced. When I wrote the state of Kansas for the
divorce record, they wrote back that they did not have a record of the divorce.
After they separated, Howard Sherman ran a grocery store and Nellie ran a boarding
house and did Bible readings. Howard Sherman Dye died May 1941 in McPherson,
McPherson Co., KS. Nellie nursed Howard Sherman in his old age when he became
ill and died in 1941 - when Nellie died in 1958 Howard's grave was moved so that
it was next to her, and they are buried under the same marker that says "Blessed
Be the Tie that Binds." | |

Co., Illinois. Her father deserted the family in 1877 when she was about age

Twp., Vermilion Co., Illinois. Bertha married Sylvanis Fellers on Dec 16,
1890 in Vermilion Co., Illinois, and they had 9 children, 7 of whom were still
living in 1910. The family is listed on the 1900 census of Germantown Village,

as being his residence at that time. His occupation is given as Engineer, and
burial place is given as Danville, Vermilion, Illinois. He is mistakenly listed
on the Illinois Death and Stillbirths Index on Ancestry.com under the name Stephen
T. Fellers. Bertha is listed twice on the 1930 census of Chicago, Cook Co., IL
as being widowed - on one record she is living with her married daughter Maycel
& family, but she is also listed as a head of household with her occupation
given as maid for a private family. She is listed as one of the 3 surviving sisters
of Howard Sherman Dye in his obit in May 1941, and as living in Danville, Illinois.Bertha
Leah Dye Fellers died on August 14, 1957 in Danville, Vermilion Co., Illinois.

of Carroll, Vermilion Co., IL, On the 1920 census Flora is living with the children
in Sidell, Vermilion Co., IL. She is listed as married, but Fred is not listed
with the household. I have not been able to find Flora on the 1930 census. Flora
B. Dye Kleffman died after May 1941 - I don't have her death date or place. She
is listed in the May 1941 obit of her brother Howard Sherman as Mrs. Flora Kleffman,

Vermilion Co., IL as Jennie E., age 5. Jennie married Jonathan Boggs about

S. Dye's pension records is an affadavit submitted to the pension office on May
25, 1900 by Jonathan Boggs of Danville, a Police Officer. It states that Mahettable
Dye lives with a married daughter, has no income or property, has never remarried,
and is dependant on her children for support. John & Juanita Boggs are living
in Danville Twp., Vermilion Co., IL with mother-in-law Hettie on the census taken
June 1, 1900. I do not know where or when Jennie E. Dye Boggs died but it
was before May 1941. She is not listed in May 1941 on her brother's obit as
