The Children of Gulbrand Gulbrandsen Lunde & Anne Andersdatter Putten

Inger Marie Gulbrandsdatter LundeInger Marie "Mary" Gulbrandsdatter Lunde was born on August 24, 1844 in Lundeie, Aadalen, Buskerud, Norway. (IGI record lists the birthdate as September 28, 1844). Inger probably emigrated with her parents from Norway to America in 1862, when she was about 18. She is not listed with her parents on the 1865 state census of Newburg, Fillmore Co., MN or on the 1870 census of Preble, Fillmore Co., MN, unless there was census error in 1870 and she is the Isabel, age 13, born Norway, or the Mary, age 7, born Minnesota that is listed there (Her sister Ingeborg would be the other one, also an error. She was age 6, born Minnesota, in 1870). I haven't been able to find her anywhere else in 1870 - it is possible that she was married to someone at that time (who?). Inger married Lars Ericksen Helgeland about 1876, and they had 5 children. At the time of their marriage, Lars was age 27 and Inger was age 32. Lars and Inger Marie Helgeland traveled by covered wagon, pulled by oxen from the Houston-Fillmore County area to Nielsville MN. Other families in the caravan were Nils and Sesselie Helgeland, and Christian Skalet, Nels and Bertha Skalet, and several other families. Nels and Lars Helgeland were brothers, as were Christian and Nils Skalet. They arrived in Polk County in May of 1878. Lars and Inger homesteaded on the NW Quarter of Section 20 in Hubbard Township. Nils Helgeland homesteaded SW of Nielsville MN, in Shelly Township at that time, part of Polk County. Lars & "Mary" are listed on the 1880 census of Vineland, Polk Co., ,MN, with Inger Marie's brother Elling working as a farm laborer in a nearby household that year. They are listed on the 1900 & 1910 censuses of Hubbard, Polk Co., MN. Inger is listed on both the 1900 & 1910 censuses as having 4 children, and there were 4 surviving in 1900 & 3 surviving in 1910. Lars died on June 15, 1915 in Nielsville, MN. Inger is listed as widowed in the household of her married daughter Anna (Helgeland) Torgerson on the 1920 census of Hubbard, Polk Co., MN. Inger Marie Gulbrandsdatter Lunde Helgeland died on April 25, 1928 in Nielsville, Polk Co., MN. Lars & Marie are both buried in the St. Petri Cemetery, Nielsville, Polk Co., Minnesota. Elling Gulbrandson LundeElling Gulbrandson Lunde was born on July 14, 1860 in Lundeie, Aadalen, Buskerud, Norway. Elling emigrated with his parents from Norway to America in 1862, when he was age 1, and he is listed with them as Ellin, male, on the 1865 state census of Newburg, Fillmore Co., MN. He is mistakenly listed as Ellen, female, age 15 (should be Elling, male, age 9) on the 1870 census, and as Elling, male, age 14 on the 1875 state census, both in the household of his parents in Preble, Fillmore Co., MN. His father died in June 1878 in Black Hammer, Houston Co., MN (just east of Preble). Elling was age 18 when his father died. He is listed as E. G. Lunde, farm laborer in the household of P. Elling married Malinda Larson Houske in 1880 and they had 9 children, who all used the surname Lunde, instead of Gilbertson like many of Ellling's brother's children. After their marriage, Elling & Malinda settled on land in the Red River Valley, where the town of Nielsville, Minnesota now stands. Later they moved to North Dakota, living first at Buffalo Lodge Lake, and then moving to a homestead 16 miles from Towner, McHenry Co., ND on the Mouse River. Ingeborg GilbertsonIngeborg Gilbertson was born on October 5, 1863 in Minnesota. Birthdate is from the book "Lundeaaten fra Aadalen". She is probably the Elizabeth (no ages given that census year) who is listed with her parents on the 1865 state census of Newburg, Fillmore Co., MN. She is listed as Isabel, age 13, b. Norway on the 1870 census, but as Ingebor, age 11, b. Minnesota on the 1875 census, both in the household of her parents in Preble, Fillmore Co., MN. Her father died in June 1878 in Black Hammer, Houston Co., MN, and I have not found Ingeborg on the 1880 census at this time. (Her mother and some of her siblings were in Black Hammer, Houston Co., MN that year.) Ingeborg married Jorgen M. Vatsvog sometime between 1886-1894 (he emigrated from Norway to USA in 1886 & she died 1894.) I have not found record of any children at this time for Jorgen & Ingeborg. Ingeborg Gilbertson Vatsvog died on September 3, 1894, possibly in McHenry Co., ND although I have not found documentation for her place of death or burial at this time. Jorgen was remarried about 1898 to Louisa Sondrol in McHenry Co., ND, and they had 9 children. The family is listed on the 1900 census of Twp 158, McHenry Co., ND & on the 1910 census of Meadow, McHenry Co., ND. Jorgen was appointed to the North Dakota Senate in 1914. He and Louisa divorced sometime between 1914-1919, and Jorgen was married third to Anna C. Lerfald about 1919. Jorgen & Anna had 6 daughters. They are listed on the 1920 census of Meadow, McHenry Co., ND living 5 households from Louisa and the children from the 2nd marriage. Jorgen & Anna are listed on the 1930 census of Upham, McHenry Co., ND. Jorgen died on October 22, 1931 in Ramsey Co., MN. Louise died in 1961 and Anna died on October 8, 1979.
