| Gunhild Lunde & 4 children | Asle Pederson Lunde
was born April 08, 1846 in Norway. He came to America with his parents when
he was 4 years old. This photo of Asle was taken about 1872 when he was 26 years
old. Asle married Gunhild Fredericksdatter May 15, 1883 in Freeborn Co.,
MN and they had 4 children. Asle & Gunhild were second cousins - their grandmothers
Kari & Barbro Hval were sisters. On March 25, 1891, Peder Lunde sold the part
of his land with his original homestead to Asle for $1. On September 2, 1891,
Peder & Elsie made a legal contract with their sons Asle & Ole that included
sale of some of their land in Hayward to each son, and also stipulated that Asle
& Ole care for Peder & Else in their old age. Peder Lunde died soon after
on September 29, 1891, and his son Asle died the next year. Asle died on
November 5, 1892 in Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN from injuries received when he was
kicked by a horse. At the time of his death, his children were age 1 to
8. The photo of Gunhild and the children was probably taken about 1895. Children
oldest to youngest were Elsie, Florence, Palma & Alfred. Gunhild Fredericksdatter
Oimoen Lunde died on October 22, 1896 in Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN. Asle
& Gunhild are both buried in the Hayward Cemetery, Hayward, Freeborn, Minnesota.
Gunhild died without a will, and on July 1, 1922 the Lunde land in Hayward (which
Gunhild inherited when Asle died), was given by the courts in equal parts to all
of the four children. On July 24, 1922, the three sisters sold it for "$1
and love and affection" to their younger brother Alfred, who by Norwegian
custom would have been the legal heir as the oldest son. Notes for Asle Lunde Notes for Gunhild Fredericksdatter Lunde Land Records - Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN |
Children of Asle & Gunhild Lunde:
| 1. Elsie Lunde | Elsie Emelia Lunde was born January 7,
1884. Her father died in 1892 when she was about age 8, and her mother died
in 1896 when she was about age 12. After her mother died, Elsie and her siblings
continued to live on their father Asle's homestead (which had originally been
her grandfather Peder A. Lunde's homestead), and they were raised by their grandmother
(Else Gravli Lunde), who had had continued to live there when the homestead was
sold to Asle in 1892. Else is listed as head of household with the children on
the 1900 census of Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN. Elsie is listed as head of household
with her sister Palma & brother Alfred on the 1910 census of Hayward Twp.,
Freeborn Co., MN. Elsie married Pete Skaar on June 13, 1916, and they had

are listed on the 1920 census of Riceland Twp., Freeborn Co., MN. Elsie Lunde
Skaar died on April 06, 1925, in Freeborn Co., MN. She was getting ready for
her twins' birthday party, and her appendix ruptured. Pete is listed as widowed

was born March 9, 1886. Her father died in 1892 when she was about age 6,
and her mother died in 1896 when she was about age 10. After her mother died,
Florence and her siblings continued to live on their father Asle's homestead (which
had originally been her grandfather Peder A. Lunde's homestead), and they were
raised by their grandmother (Else Gravli Lunde), who had had continued to live
there when the homestead was sold to Asle in 1892. Else is listed as head of household
with the children on the 1900 census of Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN. This photo
is from her high school graduation, probably about 1904. Florence did not marry.

siblings Alfred, Elsie & Palma. She is listed on the 1920 census living with
siblings Alfred & Palma in Hayward Twp, Freeborn Co., MN. Florence's sister

born October 4, 1888 in MN. Her father died in 1892 when she was about age
4, and her mother died in 1896 when she was about age 8. After her mother died,
Palma and her siblings continued to live on their father Asle's homestead (which
had originally been her grandfather Peder A. Lunde's homestead), and they were
raised by their grandmother (Else Gravli Lunde), who had had continued to live
there when the homestead was sold to Asle in 1892. Else is listed as head of household
with the children on the 1900 census of Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN. This photo
was from Palma's high school graduation, probably about 1905. She is listed on
the 1910 & 1920 censuses of Hayward Twp., Freeborn Co., MN living with her
siblings. In 1920 her occupation in both 1910 & 1920 is listed as School Teacher.
Palma married Ora Leonard "Mike" Schultz on September 11, 1920,
and they had two children. Mike was born in Illinois, and their daughter, born
in 1922, is also listed as born in Illinois. Their son, born in 1828, was born
in MN. The family is listed on the 1930 census of Riceland, Freeborn Co., MN.

was born May 29, 1891 in MN. His father died in 1892 when Alfred was about
age 1, and his mother died in 1896 when he was age 5. After her mother died, Elsie
and her siblings continued to live on their father Asle's homestead (which had
originally been her grandfather Peder A. Lunde's homestead), and they were raised
by their grandmother (Else Gravli Lunde), who had had continued to live there
when the homestead was sold to Asle in 1892. Else is listed as head of household
with the children on the 1900 census of Hayward, Freeborn Co., MN. When his mother
died without a will, the land had been divided by the courts equally between the
children, although according to Norwegian custom it was inherited by the oldest
son, which was Alfred. The farm was managed by neighbors until Alfred became of
age, and Alfred began farming the land on his own at age 14 (about 1905) with
the help of neighbors. Alfred is listed on the 1910 & 1920 censuses of Hayward
Twp., Freeborn Co., MN living with her sisters. In 1922, Alfred's three sisters
legally sold the land that had been Asle Lunde's to Alfred for "$1 and love
