Subject: Gulbrandson #3
December 8, 1909
At his home on section twenty five, Hayward township, otherwise known as the "Juglands" last Monday night at about eleven o'clock occurred the death of Mr. Nels Gulbrandson. The cause of death was a stroke of paralysis suffered by deceased on Friday night of last week from which he failed to rally. Dr. Nannestad the attending physician did everything possible to relieve the sufferer but the struggle against death was futile.
Mr. Gulbrandson was born in Norway on August 31st 1828, the youngest in a family of seven children. He came to this country in 1866, settling in Wisconsin where he remained for three years, removing in 1869 to this county and locating on the farm on which he died and which belonged to his nephew the late Gilbert Gulbrandson and which he had worked through all the years of his lfe here. The funeral will be held at the residence and at the church in Hayward at two o'clock in afternoon. Rev. O.H. Smeby will officiate and the remains will be laid to rest in the Hayward cemetery. The deceased is survived by four sons, one daughter and his faithful wife to all of whom the sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended in this their hour of sorrow and bereavement.

Mrs. Nels Gulbrandson
After a long illness, Mrs. Nels Gulbrandson passed away March 10th at 2:15 o'clock pm at the home of two of her sons, Erick and Thorvald, south of the city. She was born at Nesse, Aadalen, Norway, October 15, 1826.
Her maiden name was Guri Endreson. On July 20th, 1851 she was united in marriage to Nels Gulbrandson of Nesse, Aadalen, Norway. He passed away December 6, 1909 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Coming to America they first settled in Iowa county, Wisconsin in June, 1866. In the year 1869 they moved to Freeborn county, Minn., spending the summer at Endre Gulbrandson's of Hayward. In the fall they moved on what is known as the Banker Gulbrandson's farm, living there for fifty-one years.
In the early days while that farm was wilderness grown with timber, she with her husband and chidlren spent many a day of hard labor working the land into fields for grain. She was a woman, that was never too proud to work. She was always doing favors and good deeds to her neighbors for she was a woman with a tender heart. She was a true believer in the Holy Spirit of God. THere were born to them, 6 children, Kari, who was married to Joseph Rushfeldt, died March 4, 1898. Those living are Gilbert Gulbrandson of Albert Lea, Ole Gulbrandson and Mannie Festad of Hayward and Thorvald and Erick at home.
She also leaves to mourn her death, one sister, Mrs. A. Amundson of Hayward, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many friends. At the time of her death she was 93 years, 4 months and 25 days old.
The funeral services were conducted March 13th at 12 o'clock at the home and 2 o'clock at the Hayward Lutheran Church.
Rev. A.J. Lee of Glenville officiated. The casket was sadly lowered beneath the sod, among the beautiful floral offerings. We bid our last farewell to her our beloved mother. Those who attended the funeral were many.
