LARS E. and INGER MARIE
Lars and Inger Marie Helgeland traveled by covered wagon, pulled
oxen from the Houston-Fillmore County area to Nielsville MN. Other
families in the caravan were Nils and Sesselie Helgeland, and Christian
Skalet, Nels and Bertha Skalet and their daughter, Jonetta, and several
other families. Nels and Lars Helgeland were brothers, as were
Christian and Nils Skalet. They arrived in Polk County in May of 1878.
Lars and Inger homesteaded on the NW Quarter of Section 20 in Hubbard
Township. Nils Helgeland homesteaded SW of Nielsville MN, in Shelly
Township at that time, part of Polk County.
The children born to Lars and Inger Helgeland were Gustava
(Oscar)Skalet, Eric Helgeland and Anne (Ole) Torgerson.
Anne married Ole Torgerson from Hillsboro ND, where he ran the Goose
River Creamery. In later years, Anne lived in Fargo ND. The children
of Anne and Ole included Glenn, Lillian and Glo. Glenn and Lillian
lived in California and Glo lived in Arizona.
Eric Helgeland settled in the Thief River Falls MN area.
Lars Helgeland was born June 5, 1844 and died 15 June 1915. Inger was
born in 1844 and died in the year of 1928. Both are buried at St.
Petri Cemetery, Nielsville MN.
(Story of Gustava Helgeland Skalet and Oscar Skalet is written in
another article in this book.)

Subject: More Lunde family
Bruce sent me your research on the Lunde Family. You do good work. It isn't often that we get a query that is as well documented as yours!
A couple of additions:
1. Inger Marie Helgeland d. 25 April 1928 at Nielsville, Polk Co., Minn.
2. Kari G. Houske died in Riceford, Houston Co., Minn.
3. Ole G. Lunde married ca 1881 [not 1855]
4. Anna Erikson died in Preble, Fillmore Co., Minn.
Gulbrand G. Lunde and Anne A. (Putten) are in Preble Township on the 1870 U.S. Census, and the 1875 Minnesota Census, but then moved to Blackhammer Township in Houston Co. (just to the east of Preble). Gilbert died there on 6 June 1876, and Anne lived there in 1880 U.S. Census. She later moved to McHenry Co., in North Dakota where she is found on the 1900 and 1910 U.S. Census. In 1910 she was living in Towner, McHenry Co., where she most likely died 2 April 1914. On the 1910 census Anne said she was the mother of 10 children, and five of them were then alive.
