page on my website
I've printed out all the info on Elias and descendants
and the notes for Solomon. will check it all over and get back to you.
Can
add right now that Kezia died May 16, 1902 in Spencerville, Ohio and is buried
in the Spencerville cemetery.
She and Solomon were apparently not divorced,
but definitely were separated. Family legend has it that he was very irresponsible

Hi Kari,
I found your website, nice job. I have some corrections for the Notes for Solomon
M. Brees, in 1860 census it was Alice Carpenter, age 46, b. NY, in his household,
and not Kize. In 1900 census, Harriet, wife of Abram B. Brees, says she is mother
of 2, 2 living, and mother Keziah says she was married 58 years. Solomon was counted
in 1900, the name is spelled BREECE, in Seneca Twp., Lenawee Co., MI, he is listed
by himself, and again claimed to be widowed. In 1870 Keziah is in the same household
as my third great grandparents, Samuel and Mary (Rickey) Carpenter, Ebenezer Snow
Carpenter was their son, Keziah must be related, I think she was a niece.

Kezia
L. Brees died at the residence of her son, A. B. Brees, May 16th, 1902, aged 85
years, 9 months and 12 days. She was born August 4th, 1816, in Chemung Co., N.
Y., whence she emigrated to the territory of Michigan, with her father's family,
and other relatives, about 1831. She was married to Solomon M. Brees, Feb. 10th,
1841. When about sixteen years old she experienced a hope in Christ, and joined
the Baptist church, to which faith she has unwaveringly held ever since, and when
the division occured she remained steadfast in the original faith of the Baptists,
needing no improvements in methods or means of salvation upon the merit of Christ,
and redemption by his blood. She always appreciated sound doctrine and order in
the church, and endeavoured to set an example of humility and love, yet faithful
and forgiving. She died with no malice toward those whom she had thought were
inconsiderate and ???sh. Her last words breathed the sentiment of peaceful regard
for all on earth.
Elder Jacob Gander spoke comfortingly at her funeral.

note:
Signs of times, and doctrinan advocate and monitor,
1908, Vol. 76, p. 93 My father, Solomon Moore Brees, died at his residence near
Canandaigua, Mich., August 21st, 1907, aged 90 years, 9 months and 25 days. He
was born near Horseheads, N. Y., Oct. 26th, 1816, moved to Michigan about 1832,
I think, and on Feb. 10th, 1841, married Kezia L. Carpenter, who proceeded him
to the grave (in 1902) at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 12 days. I am their
only child. My father was ambitious to a fault, and through hard labor and exposure
grew decrepit as he grew old. I had the humble priviledge of caring for him the
last three years of his life, and feel the only regret is that I could not more
tenderly provide for him. He was regarded as honest in dealing, frugal in habits
and strong in prejudice, yet often gave freely in cases of need or pleasure.
I
have no personal knowledge of his making a profession of faith in Christ.

Spencerville, Ohio, Jan. 6, 1908.
