Benton, NY

>Neither Daniel Thorn nor his wife are buried in Yates County, or at least there is no surviving record or gravestone for them. The only "old" Vanwinkle I find in Benton was a Jacob who is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the Torrey-Benton line. This was the churchyard of the Presbyterian Church, to which a lot of formerly Dutch-reformed people went. Jacob died in 1837 at the age of 19, and he was the son of Albert Vanwinkle and Margaret Bush. Margaret was born in 1788, the daughter of Lodowick Bush and Magdalena Visshee, who came here in 1817 from NJ, near Bergen. Margaret's husband died in NJ and she lived with her parents after that. They had three children, all of whom died before the late 1860s, and I don't know whether there was a Hannah among them, though it seems likely, as they were as far as I can tell the only Vanwinkles in Benton at that time.
