>Neither Daniel Thorn nor his wife are buried in Yates County, or at least there is no surviving record or gravestone for them. The only "old" Vanwinkle I find in Benton was a Jacob who is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the Torrey-Benton line. This was the churchyard of the Presbyterian Church, to which a lot of formerly Dutch-reformed people went. Jacob died in 1837 at the age of 19, and he was the son of Albert Vanwinkle and Margaret Bush. Margaret was born in 1788, the daughter of Lodowick Bush and Magdalena Visshee, who came here in 1817 from NJ, near Bergen. Margaret's husband died in NJ and she lived with her parents after that. They had three children, all of whom died before the late 1860s, and I don't know whether there was a Hannah among them, though it seems likely, as they were as far as I can tell the only Vanwinkles in Benton at that time.

1839 - Benton, Yates Co., NY Deeds - Liber 14, Page 435 shows Lawrence & Hannah and mentions Lodowick Bush.

Lawrence Thorn household:
1 male under 5 (this confuses me. He should have George, age 4; William Allen, age 2 & Fayette, age 1)
1 male 30 & under 40 (Lawrence, age 31, born abt 1809)
1 female under 5 (this confuses me too. His first daughter was born in 1842. Unless the census taker thought Fayette was a girl??)
1 female 20 & under 30 (Hannah, age 27, born 1813)

1850 census Painted Post, Steuben Co., NY - Lawrence Thorn (40), Hannah (37), George (14), William (12), Fayette (11), Sarah J. (8), Edward (6), Maryette (3), and Charles (1). Lawrence's occupation listed as Mason. Lawrence, Hannah & George listed born NJ, all others born NY.

Lawrence Thorn remarried to Martha Clark of Horseheads on March 28, 1854.
