In John's will, Milla Atwood "daughter of my wife" and Horace Pound were
left money due from the Atwood farm by the will of the grandfather, Benjamin
Atwood".

Sally Rockwell married first, Benjamin Atwood Jr., s/o of Benjamin and
Deborah (Moshier) Atwood. They had a daughter Milla Atwood. She married
second, John Bennett.

Hello Everyone,

I am researching the family of John BENNETT. He was the son of Abraham
Bennett & Jerusha WANZER. He was born 4 April 1786 in Orange County, New
York & died 8 February 1837 in Big Flats, Chemung County. He married Sally
ROCKWELL. They had several children & one of them was my husbands
gggrandfather Elias, born 12 July 1827 in Chemung County. As I understand it
the Bennett's lived in the Big Flats area for many years.

Does any of this information ring any bells for anyone? I am willing to
share what information that I have.

Abram, John, and Comfort Bennitt were some of the early pioneers inthe town of Big Flats. They were all farmers. Abram's land was bounded on the east by Sing Sing Rd, on the south by Maple St., on the west by Robert Miller's land and on the north by the Chemung Canal. Abram had eight children. Telman, his oldest son, bought the farm that Rowland and Clara Farr now own. Miles C. Bennitt, a cousin, bought the farm from Telman. John, one of Abram's brothers, owned the farm where James Wells now lives. Miles was one of John Bennitt's eight children, but he was the only one who remained in Big Flats. Abraham Bennitt, the father of the three brothers died when Comfort was 8 years old and the boys came to Big Flats when Comfort war 18 years old. They found work on farms doing carpentry work.

Did you know that John and his wife Sally were first cousins? John's father Abraham Bennett Jr. was a brother of Hannah Bennett,Sally's mother who was married to Jonathan Rockwell. Have you searched the Ny genweb State's project ny Chemung co.? I am also possibly a direct line from Abraham Bennett and Silence hickok,John's grandfather. My maiden name is Bennett.
