Claude's back was injured when some logs fell on him when he was working in the logging camps in Canada. He was in a wheelchair for a while but later in life was bedridden. Atlanta Brees said when her family visited MN in the summer of 1934 that Claude could not even sit up in bed, and that his brother Arthur took care of all of his needs for him. Claude died in December of 1934.
