Story told by my grandfather, Charles Sumner Rudloff (Lawnedo Fisk's Grandnephew): Uncle Lonnie and his first wife had a Model T Ford. In the early 1920's they were avid travellers and would drive to places like Colorado. This was very unusual at the time. Uncle Lonnie lived in a house on Austin St. in Houston and was widowed in the 1920's. He remarried a "young, red-haired floozy" in the 1930's. She left him before long though because evidently he was living longer than she had assumed he would. She had refused to ride in his Model T and mad him buy her a more modern car. When she left, he put her car on blocks in the garage and drove the Model T. He drove the Model T Ford until the 1940's. The kitchen table that my mom (Lizabeth Ann Rudloff) and her brothers grew up with came from Uncle Lonnie's house (the table is now at Pat Rudloff's house). |

Story told by my grandfather, Charles Sumner Rudloff (Fisk Neilssen's Cousin): Mabel married a Swedish fellow named Neilssen who was a mining engineer. They moved to Mexico where he was working. They had a baby boy named Orla Fisk Neilssen. Mabel contracted T.B. while there, and her husband left her and their baby in Mexico. Her mother and father had to figure out a way to get her back home. After she was back in Houston, she met and married Charles Dysert. Uncle Charlie adopted Orla Fisk and they changed his name to Fisk Neilssen Dysert. When Fisk was a teenager he had a bicycle that he really souped up. At a time when most cars did not have a radio, Fisk had a bike rigged up with a radio, lights and turn signals, powered by generators. He would ride his bike all over Houston and long distances. My grandfather said Fisk even rode from Houston to Kerrville a couple of times to visit his mom who was at the T.B. Sanatorium there. Fisk held many jobs and along the way acquired skills as an electrician. He moved to Alaska and married a schoolteacher named Fern who was there from Kansas. They had five kids and the family moved to Tucson, Arizona when the kids were school age. Fisk had a big, fancy motorcycle that he traveled all over on. My grandfather said that he made several cross-country trips on his motorcycle in his mid 70's. |
