Thomas Lenoir Sr. died after 14 May 1765 at Edgecomb, North Carolina.

Some sources say Thomas married Mourning in Ireland where he had fled to escape Huguenot persecution in France and they emigrated to Edgecomb County, NC. A key Lenoir reference: "Echoes of Happy Valley" by Thomas Felix Hickerson. They lived in Brunswick County, Virginia. In 1760 they moved to Edgecomb Co., NC on the Tar River near Tarborough, where he died in 1765.

In 1760, Thomas Lenoir, Jr. went to South Carolina, first settling among the friendly Catawba Indians near the line between North and South Carolina, but on account of trouble with the hostile Cherokees, he went further south and made his home seven miles below the village of Camden, then called "Pine Tree Hill", among the friendly tribe of the Waterees.
