Dora Margaret Stapp was born on 12 September 1855 at Clinton, Texas. She was the daughter of Oliver Hardin Stapp and Margaret Bonham. On 8 February 1877, at age 21, Dora Margaret Stapp married John Jay Woodrome, age 24, son of Edmund Bee Woodrome and Eliza Jane Sexton. Dora Margaret Stapp died on 16 June 1932 at Terryville, Texas, at age 76. She was buried at County Line Cemetery, near, Terryville, Texas.       Grave marker shows year of birth as 1856. There is a question whether her name is Dora or Eudora. Dora married twice. First marriage to John Jay Woodrome. Dora's sister, Laura, married Sam Houston (Black Sam) Lewis. Sam was a witness at the wedding of Dora and John. John died. Laura died. Sam Lewis married Dora Stapp Woodrome. Dora was a cousin of John Henry Brown, who wrote "History of Texas".

Oliver Hardin Stapp was born in 1818 at Missouri. He was the son of Elijah Stapp and Nancy Shannon. Oliver Hardin Stapp married Margaret Bonham. Oliver Hardin Stapp died in 1870 at Bryan, Texas.       On September 11, 1842, Oliver H. Stapp fought with a company of 43 men from Lavaca County, under Capt. Adam Zumwalt against the Mexican Army at Salado, six miles east of San Antonio, Texas. Isaac, Thomas, and Andrew Zumwalt were a part of this company. This was the second invasion by the Mexican Army within the year. Adam, Isaac, Thomas, and Andrew Zumwalt all related to Mary Ann Zumwalt, wife of David Burkett.

Carroll and Nancy McDonald. Anna Bell Woodrome died on 28 February 1936 at Cuero, Texas, at age 58. She was buried at County Line Cemetery, near, Terryville, Texas.       Before her marriage Anna Bell taught school. She kept a scrapbook of events in and about Terryville. It is a valued source of information.

Oliver Edmund Woodrome died on 11 November 1939 at El Paso, Texas, at age 60. He was buried at Restlawn Memorial Park, El Paso, Texas.       On the 1880 Census, DeWitt County, Texas, is shown:      Dora and John Jay Woodrome      Oliver Edmund Woodrome age 5/12. (which means he was 5 months old. This would be right      as the census was taken in 1880 and he was born 24 Oct 1879.) This indicates he was named for his maternal grandfather, Oliver Hardin Stapp; and his paternal grandfather, Edmund Bee Woodrome. He used the name John Edmund, names of his father and paternal grandfather. Ed (John Edmund) served the U. S. Government as a Customs Collector in Haiti, Secret Service Agent in Mexico, served in Philippine Islands, Santo Domingo and three years in the Panama Canal Zone. President Theodore Roosevelt presented him with a special medal for his service in Panama. His last assignment was with the U. S. Immigration Service in El Paso as Investigator of Illegal Entries.

Carroll married Nancy McDonald.       NOTES FROM BURKETT-GREEN-WOODROME BOOK by Mina Mae Woodrome (Page 127): Hebron was a church and school community 14 miles SE of Yoakum on land of the Charles P. Delmas Survey. Earliest settlers included Moses Granberry, J. B. Holland, Adam Shows, W. P. Carroll, Dr. Carroll, A. P. Hill, John Goode, Joe Byars, and Dave McManus families. On November 30, 1869, Amos Granberry and John G. Hargrove granted to Deacons Amos Hill and L. Bisset of Hebron Baptist Church a two-acre plot on which the church was located. An additional acre was donated in May 1890 by W. P. Carroll. The following persons either taught or applied for teaching positions in one of the DeWitt County schools from about 1861 to 1949: included in the list were: D. R. Carroll and J. Wm Carroll.

I hope I won't miss any time this year. I walk a mile to school. I am in the second grade. My teacher is my cousin, Miss Sallie Woodrome. My grandma lives across the street from us. I am staying with her tonight. My great grandmother is here too. She is 84 years old. My papa is a school teacher. I have one brother and a sweet baby sister. I am the oldest and can help mama. I have an uncle in Panama. He sends us post cards and shells. He is going to bring me a monkey. We live 8 miles from Yoakum. There was not very much cotton raised here this year. I can pick cotton. I have for my pets a cat and a dog. This is a small place, just one store. I will send 10 cents for the cripples.                               Chester Carroll I think this is a fine lettr for a 9-year-old boy and am sure you are going to be a fine man.
