  Lt. Colonel Hugh Maxwell, father of Lillie (Maxwell) Jones, was born in Scotland, and came to this county as a young boy. The Maxwells moved from Bedford, Massachusetts, to Charlemont, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, now Heath, Franklin County, Massachusetts. Hugh Maxwell was elected to the first Provincial Congress at Salem, Massachusetts. He fought in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. On the 19th of April 1775, Hugh Maxwell was  the Lieutenant of a Company of Minute Men at Lexington (Massachusetts). He was made Captain of Prescott's Massachusetts Regiment from 10 May to December 1775 and was wounded at Bunker Hill on 17th June 1775. Hugh Maxwell was Captain 7th Continental Infantry from 1 January to 31 December 1776, Captain of 2nd Massachusetts on 1 January 1777 and was made Major of 15th Massachusetts on 7 July 1777, transferring to the 2nd Massachusetts on 1 July 1779. Lieutenant Colonel Maxwell was with the 8th Massachusetts on 1 August 1782, transferring to the 3rd Massachusetts on 12 June 1783 serving until 3 November 1783. He was at Valley Forge with General George Washington.
  In 1784, Hugh Maxwell was made a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, and honorable society established for those who served as officers in the American Revolution. He died 14 October 1799.
  After the Revolutionary War, Lt. Col. Hugh Maxwell was instrumental in calming followers of Daniel Shay's rebellion and he administered the oath of allegiance to some members of the Jones family who participated in the rebellion.
  Lillie (Maxwell) Jones' mother, Bridget (Monroe) Maxwell, was a descendant of the Monroe family of Lexington, Massachusetts, who also were active in the support for the American Revolution.
  In 1806 and 1822, Alfred Jones was on the voter rolls in Buckland, Massachusetts. He was a retailer, licensed to sell liquors under the heading of "inn holder and retailer" from 1814 to 1819. His store was located on Upper Street near the present location of the Buckland library.
  Alfred and Lillie (Maxwell) Jones are listed in the vital records for Buckland, Massachusetts, as having died there.

Almond B. Wilbur
Almond Benjamin Wilbur, 87, of Rockland Road, North Scituate, died yesterday in Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Maude E. (Knight) Wibur. He was born in Scituate, son of the late Abner and Annie (Sybe) Wilbur. A retired Narragansett Electric Co. lineman, Mr. Wilbur also worked for Potterville Mill and Ashland Mill. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Warren H. and Harold L. Wilbur, both of North Scituate; a daughter Mrs. Annie M. Poole, also of North Scituate; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Frank R. Gorton & Sons Funeral Home, 721 Washington St. Coventry Burial will be in Phillips Memorial Cemetery, Foster.
