Two Divorces Granted In Lewis Court
Divorce actions decided at the present term of Lewis county supreme court, Justice Jesse E. Kingsley, Syracuse, presiding, so far number two. In the suits of N. Arthur Jones of Lowville vs. Gladys Jones and Francis Knight vs. Spencer E. Knight of Greig for absolute divorces, the degrees were granted in both cases. Mrs. Knight asked for and was granted custody of the two children by there marriage, and Mr. Knight was directed to pay $7.50 per week for the support of each of the children. Attorneys for the plaintiffs were the firm of Dudo and Egloff for both Mrs. Knight and Mr. Jones and Daniel P. Falnoni represented Mrs. Jones. Mr. Knight was not present and was not represented by counsel.

Garfield Moody, who was arraigned before Police Justice Fred A. Young Friday, charged with disorderly conduct, pleaded guilty and was given a suspended sentence pending good behavior. He was arrested by Night Officer Arthur Lyng upon complaint that he was abusing his family.

Croghan – John Peters was honored as Croghan’s Fireman of the Year at the departments annual banquet. President Floyd Martin was toastmaster, and introduced the officers and guests at the head table; Supervisor and Mrs. Gilbert Nortz, Fire Chief and Mrs. Leland Knight, President and Mrs. Floyd Martin, Chaplain Julius Meyer and President of the Ladies Fire Auxiliary and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Chris (Gert) Adams. Pins were also given for years of service. Fire chief, Leland Knight was about to give his report, when they were called out on an emergency ambulance run. Due to the flu epidemic there were several members absent. Dancing followed the banquet.

The funeral of Miss Jane Wilber was held Thursday, the Rev. D. I. Putnam officiating. She died Monday morning, after a lingering sickness of cancer. She was 81 years old.

Erwin Knight dies of burns
Erwin Knight, 48 years old, whose home is in Gowanda, died yesterday morning a the Emergency hospital. He was burned on Wednesday night when his clothing caught fire from a gas stove, as he was sleeping on the floor of a room at No. 240 Broadway, occupied by his friend Charles Law, whom he came here to visit. Dr. George B. Stocker, the county medical examiner, gave a verdict of accidental death. The body was sent to the morgue.

Daniel Kent, (Jacob 5, Ebenezer 4, Ebenezer 3, John 2, Richard 1), half brother to the preceding and son of Jacob Kent senior by his third wife, Abigail (Barnes) Kent. He was born Dec. 31, 1778, in Brookfield, Mass. He 1st married Polly Bonne of Hardwick Gore, Mass., pub. Feb. 8, 1801. Don't know where or when she was b. or anything about her parents. They settled in Whitingham, Windham County, Vt., where they had one child which died at time of birth, as did also the mother, early in the yea 1802. He married 2d Jan. 13, 1803, in Whitingham, Nancy Young, who was born in Hopkinton, Mass., Aug. 6, 1786, and daughter of John and Abigail (Howe) Young. Mr. Kent learned the carpente's trade when young, but worked most of his life at farming which suited him better. He was a practical and successful farmer and owned a fine farm in Chester, Ohio, where he died July 23, 1853, aged 74y, 6m, 22d. His widow died in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sept. 19, 1860, aged 74y, 1m, 13d.
