(IV) Joseph, son of Benjamin Knight, was born May 12, 1739, at Norwich, Connecticut. He removed to Enfield, in that state, and died there, January 9, 1794, age fifty-five (gravestone). The first federal census of 1790 shows that he had three males over sixteen, one under that age and two females in his family. The only other Knight in the town at that time was his son Thomas, who is also reported as head of a family consisting of self and wife. His widow Sarah and son Levi were appointed administrators, February 15, 1794.   Capt. Asa Fisk (David, John, John, Nathaniel, Nathaniel, William, Robert, Simon, Simon, William, Symond), b. Windham, Conn., May 26, 1733; m. there Mar. 19, 1755, Elizabeth Knight of Norwich, Conn., dau. of Joseph and Elizabeth (Tracy) Knight. She d. Mar. 6, 1818. Capt. Asa Fisk emigrated to Wales from Hampton, Conn., thereafter abode and died there; when first he came or soon after he acquired the ownership of the premises constituting and connecting with the "Oliver Wales Tavern Stand." There he dwelt, and for some time kept an inn or house of public entertainment. Subsequently he disposed of that estate and purchased a large tract of land in the southern part of the town, upon which he established and through after life maintained his family home. That tract was upon elevated ground or high land situated a little distance off the direct road to Stafford in our approachment of  Stafford line. That elevation received from him the significant name of Fisk Hill. His old premises, or rather the central and main part thereof, are now owned by Moses Davis, and dwelt upon by him, and derive from him their modern name of Davis Place. He possessed much strength and penetration of mind, solidity of judgement and inflexibleness of purpose mixed up with some of the spirit of domination and arbitrariness. As am agriculturist he was judicious, skillful, thoroughgoing. As a townsman, he was prominent, conspicuous, influential. As a military officer, he was manly and commanding in his mien, well informed in tactics, resolute and efficient in discipline. One occurrence in his life opened a doorway through which to question his patriotism: In the time of "Shay's war" he took sides with the party opposed to the government and was appointed a captaincy in the opposing and rebelling forces, but as he had enough of that "better part of valor," discretion, to restrain him from the commission of any overt act of rebellion, he finally got out of the scrape without being overwhelmed or greatly damaged thereby. All things considered, Capt. Fisk must be set down as a very good man for his town. Let us not be found undervaluing his virtue, says the Wales historian: "Elizabeth, Fidelity is compelling us to say her virtues were many and must be unforgot." Another correspondent says: "He kept a country store on the hill where he lived, and that he owned in his farm 400 acres, and that Shay's war cost him considerable property. Also that he sent two sons, aged 14 and 16 to the Revolutionary war. My grandfather Elisha was one. Both were drummers. The company they were in arrived at Cornwallis surrender one hour after the surrender. He was Lieutenant in the company of minute men which marched to the Lexington alarm, and was afterward and for some time captain in the Continental army.

I have to advice you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, B. 41732, it appears that Elijah Knight enlisted at Norwich, Connecticut in April 1777 and served as private in Captains Nathaniel Webb's and Fell's Companies, Colonel John Durkee's Connecticut Regiment, was in the battles of Danbury, Brandywine, Germantown, Mud Fort, White Church, where he was wounded and taken prisoner, held two weeks and exchanged, he at once returned to the same regiment, was in the battles of Monmouth and Yorktown and served to end of war. He was allowed pension on his application executed June 22, 1818, while a resident of Gallia County, Ohio, aged sixty years. In 1820, soldier was living in Pickaway County, Ohio, and referred to his wife and three children, the eldest being about sixteen years, names not stated. He died in 1826.
Owing to a lack of clerical force available for such a purpose, only two reports are furnished each inquirer.

BIOGRAPHY: Silas Knight moved to Meigs County,,Ohio area in 1810, they settled in the Salisbury area. And are considered one of the early settlers.

On the memorial of Samuel Lovett, as guardian to David Knight, Jonathan Knight, and Silas Knight, all of Norwich, shewing to this Assembly that the said David and Jonathan are twins in the seventh year of their age, and that the said Silas is in the fifth year of his age, and that neither of them have or ever had any estate except about three or four acres of land each that was set out to them in the division of the estate of their father, Mr. Benjamin Knight late of said Norwich, deceas'd, and that there has arisen necessary charges for their support since the decease of their said father over and above what was allowed by the judge of  probate to the widow of said deceas'd for bringing them up to the age of four years each, which has been considered and allowed by said judge as follows, viz: For keeping and supporting said Jonathan, 12 pounds 15  6, and for keeping and supporting said David 9 pounds 5 0, and for keeping and supporting said Silas 8 pound 0 0, which can no other ways be paid but by money raised by the sale of said lands, as appears by a certificate from the clerk of probates for the district of Norwich, and thereupon praying for liberty to sell so much of said lands as shall be sufficient to raise the sum or sums from each of them respectively due: Therefore resolved by this Assembly, that the memorialist have Liberty, and power and authority is hereby given to said  Samuel Loveitt, to sell so much of the lands of the said Jonathan as to raise the sum of 12 pound 15 6, and of the land of said David so much as to raise the sum of 9 pound 5 0, and of the land of said Silas so much as to raise the sum of 8 pound 0 0, with incident charges arising on such sale; taking the direction of the court of probate for the district of Norwich therein.

BIOGRAPHY: 231. Eunice Higley was born in 1776 in Granby, Hartford, CT. She died on 31 Jul 1839 in Salisbury, Meigs, OH. Eunice was baptized on 23 Oct 1894. She was endowed on 25 Oct 1894.

MARRIAGE: Eunice Higley married Silas Knight, known as "Deacon Knight," in 1812 and came to Rutland in 1812. They were highly respected. They had a numerous family—two sons and six daughters. Mr. Knight and his wife, Eunice, both died the same day and were buried in the same grave, July 31st, 1839, aged 67 years and 63 years, respectively.
