Edward, Mable and their son lived in Church Square, Basingstoke, just a couple of doors along from St Michaels Church and just around the corner from Mabel's sister Lily.

I remember that shortly after Mabel died, Eddy married her sister May.

Eddy worked for Thornycrofts at Basingstoke and I remember that he used to carry out test drives of the huge Antar lorries that were made there. These lorries were used to transport large military vehicles such as tanks and I remember them as being massive. When they were tested they were nothing more than a chassis with just a small wind shield built around the driver's seat to keep the wind off. Eddie used to drive the vehicles around the country lanes of Kempshot where I lived and I remember him waving out to me as he went by. My friends were all impressed that I was related to the man driving these huge vehicles.
