James was baptised at the Parish Church of St. Mary's, Michelmersh, Romsey.
Baptism details found at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HAM/Michelmersh/BAPMERSH.TXT
__________

I believe it is James who appears at Streatham, London in the 1901 census, seemingly unmarried.
__________

James lead a somewhat chequered life and was accused of the murder of one of his staff at the plantatioin he managed. He was himself murdered in 1929by a number of Chinese workers on the plantation on the island of Rhio in the Dutch East Indies. His grandaughter Priscilla has provided the following details from a cutting taken from the Bournemouth Star newspaper (date unknown):

CHINESE MURDER A BRITON
Manager of a Rubber Estate
Singapore. Wednesday
Mr James William Futcher, the British manager of a Chinese-owned rubber and pineapple estate on the island of Rhio, has been murdered by a crowd of Chinese. They were armed with Parangs.
Eight arrests have been made by the Dutch police. - Reuter.

Rhio is a small island, forming part of the Dutch East Indies. It is situated to the south-east of Singapore. A "Parang" is a Malay heavy sheath knife.
