Jacquinot Family from genelogy written by Helen Schweitzer Dreitzler
The Jacquinot family come from France to America, and was headed by the elder Justin Peter, born about 1819. He brought two know sons along, Augustus and Justin Jr. After their arrival in the United States, lived for a time in the Decatur, Illinois area.
The family were listed as living in the Grant Township district of Crawford County Kansas as early as June 1, 1870 according to the census of that year. Justin P., age 51 and a widower, owned land valued at $680 at that time.
in 1880 Lewis Roberts purchased land from the Kansas City Ft. Scott & Gulf Railroad Company, sold to Henry Bredehoeft and wife Anna. They in turn sold to Justin Jacqauinot whol section of land for the price of $4,000.
Justin, according tho his grandaughter Leona Jacquinot Shay, "had a beautiful voice, and sang at many wedding and funeral masses. when we were kids, my father and the three oldest would go to the neighbors to spend the evening, grandfather would tell us stories until they came home, and boy, could he ever tell stories!" Justin died Christmas eve Thursday December 24, 1903 at the age of 84 years, and was buried at the Greenbush Cemetery.
Justin Jr., or Pete as he was known, with his wife Felicy, became the parents of seven children. Two of their children, Edward and Mary Felice Leona Jr., died young. In later years another daughter was to bear this name.
