James Harvey Halley

James Harvey Halley was born in Switzerland Co. Ind., March 24, 1844, and departed from this life January 31, 1921. He was married to Miss Fannie Crail in 1865. To this union were born two daughters, Miss Mattie and Miss Mollie, and one son, Theodore, all of whom with his widow are left to mourn his going. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Francis, Ruth, Alice, Billy and Virginia Halley, one brother Henry, of Kempton, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Coppage of Arkansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Halley lived in Indiana until 1881, when they came to Girard, Kansas and located on the farm north of town which has since been their home.
He was familiarly known as “Uncle Jim” among his host of friends and neighbors who will miss him sadly.
Funeral services were conducted by W.E. Babb at the home of his son, Theodore, on South Cherokee at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment was made in Girard Cemetery.

Death of Fannie Crail Halley
Mrs.Fannie Crail Halley died at her home two and one half miles northwest of town, Tuesday evening, June 3,1930. She was born in Switzerland County,Ind., March 21,1846.
Mrs. Halley is survived by two daughters, Miss Mattie and Miss Molly at the home; one son, Theodore Halley of Girard: Two brothers, Samuel Crail and Asa Crail: Two sisters, Mrs.Armanda McIntire and Miss Ella Crail, all of Indiana.

5. Martha Ellen Halley

Miss Martha (Mattie) E. Halley, 80, died early Sunday morning at her home, Girard R.R. 1. She had been a resident of this county for 65 years.
Miss. Halley was born June 11, 1866, in Tipton County, Indiana, and came to Crawford County in 1881. She had lived here since that time.
For several years she was employed as a school teacher in the rural communities in the county.
Survivors include a sister, Miss Mary C. Halley of the home and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Kirk Patrick chapel here. Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment was in the
Girard cemetery.
