According to Mary Louise Miles: Louis was born in Quebec. Source: birth. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Died of heart &
arthritic condition in 1883 |

|
The following information was all I ever knew and came from Mary Louise
Miles, until I started researching the family and was able to validate much of this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
| He was born about
1835 in Quebec or Montreal. He married at age 27, about 1862.
| His mother and baby
sister died in Canada. His father migrated to Michigan or Wisconsin.
Louis was raised with his uncle's family in Canada.
When he was quite young Louis came to Wisconsin looking for
his father. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| He found his father's 2nd wife and family (2 daughters), but his father had died before that and the new family claimed they knew nothing of a former marriage of Louis' father nor of the son Louis. The daughters (Louis; half sisters) grew up and married wealthy men - La Mont and McCarthy. A granddaughter Margaret La Mont was later in the silent movies. Her father, a La Mont, was a lawyer in Duluth, Minnesota. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Louis worked on the
flat river boats up & down the Mississippi before the Civil War.
He married Josephine Russeau in 1846 (1862?).
He was a strict father, religious (catholic) but did not believe in
confession to a priest. All
the children attended catholic school.
All were baptized in the Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.
| The younger children
were with their foster uncle and old Lady La Sart after the death of the
father and mother. According to Mary Louis Miles, his folks are from
southern France - she thought maybe the Basque country because they had
fair complexions - blond and blue eyes.
His uncle (La Sart?) raised a large family of boys, sheep and
honey. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Mrs. Hazel Poppe
(Strickland) wrote that she thought he was born in France, not Quebec.
His grandfather had changed his last name and the papers were lost.
| Louis' half sisters
grew up and married a La Mott and a McCarthy, according to Mary Louise
Miles. The fact is that
Margaret married Joseph G. LaMotte, a saloon keeper of Chippewa Falls. No
related McCarthy can be found.
| Louis married Josephine
BOISSEAU daughter of Joseph BOISSEAU OR BESAU and Mary
Ann | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
According to Mary
Louise Miles: Josephine REAUSEAU was born in Michigan 2 weeks after her folks arrived from France - Normandy French according to Mary Louise Mile's mother.
| Joseph REASEAU,
her father, was a blacksmith. The
mother and dad REASEAU both died and left 2 orphan girls who was
left to Josephine's Aunt a Mrs. La Sart, the child "Oline"
died in infancy and
Josephine was raised by her Aunt Mrs. La Sart, a widow woman along
with several other orphan children she raised. La SART or La
SARTE was Josephine
ROUSSEAU's mother's maiden name as near as I can make out.
| Josephine was
16 when she married Louis OZIOS 27 at the time of their marriage
about 1862. They settled in
Chippewa Falls. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| She died about 1885
of inflammation of the bowels ?, appendicitis.
| According to my
Mom< (Laura Hoffman Thompson):
Josephine ROUSSEAU was born in Michigan about 1846.
She was married when she was 16 about 1862.
She lived in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin after her marriage.
She died about 1885 in Chippewa Falls.
Her kids were Emma Lene who married at 16.
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Josephine was
quite a comic. She could sing
and challenged 2 Wisconsin state Champions of tap dancing.
She knew more steps than they.
She had dark hair and eyes. Mrs.
Hazel Strickland (Poppe) says that she thought Josephine was born
in Canada - and that she was French and raised by French Indians named La
Sart. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
