| Laurine at 80 in preparation for our July, 2006 reunion Laurine "Rene" Mitchell: All of the nice words in the dictionary combined could not accurately describe this remarkable woman. Only one comes close: "grandmother". She is a grand mothering figure. Her love is unconditional, patient, endless. She teaches by example, and loves with her entire heart. There is nothing more comforting than her hug, her soft voice, her hearty laugh. To the birthday girl- cheers! | 147. M. Iver Albert9 THOMPSON (Peter8, Torsten7, Ola6, Häakon5, (Hakonson)4, Häakon3, Jon2, Johannes1). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| He was born 16 Dec 1909 in Seattle, Washington. Iver died 27 Oct 1959 in Sedro Woolley, Washington, at the age of 49, and was buried in Washelli, Seattle, Washington. Iver may have had Alzheimers before much was know of that illness. He married Laura Mary HOFFMAN 28 Feb 1935 in Port Orchard, Washington. She was born 26 Sep 1909 in Great Falls, Montana. Laura died 4 Sep 1982 in Granada Hills, Los Angelas, California, at the age of 73, and was buried in Washelli, Seattle, Washington. NOTES for Iver: July 12, 1991 at lunch with Evelyn Cusssac, Bev and Laurine, Evelyn said that Fred Johnson who bequeathed the land to Dad when Dad was four years old was a short black haired black mustaiche (which was big) Norwegian bachelor who was a friend of the family (Dad's Uncle Iver). He was a backsmith, (I can't really remember) but he was NOT a lumberman. He had been a friend of Dad's Uncle Iver. Both were from Norway. He had no first and second names on his birth certificate. In 1957 he had them put on. He lived in Poulsbo from 1944-1951. He chopped wood, looked for work in Seattle and built a quantset house for $2000. He loved living in the woods. He and his wife, Laura (Hoffman) were charter members of the Lemola Baptist Church in Poulsbo in 1946. The family moved to Mountlake Terrace when the ferry moved from Suquamish to Bainbridge as he felt it was too far to drive. The he commuted to Seattle via the Greyhound bus. He got a job in Seattle at the George Bush Company which was two blocks up from the ferry at 2nd and Marion. His office was in the corner window and when we came to Seattle we would see him sitting at his desk. Once, about 1949 or 1950 on the ferry he won a record player/radio combination. Probably one of the few if not only times the ferry offered prizes. He was hospitalized in 1957 after becoming ill. He died in the hospital. Dad worked at Union 76 before we left Seattle. Dad was up for bonus for perhaps 25 years and nephew or son of owner took dad's job - we think that was the start of Dad's breakdown. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This is the only full picture existing of our house. 60 x 25 - When we moved there in 1944, while Ron and Dad were erecting the quanset hut, we slept in a cabin up on the hill from the creek, that had 1916 newspapers on the wall, and apparently had been inhabited by an Indian and his white woman.
