Louis Gagnon was born in 1858 in
Beauharnois, Quebec. He was the son of Francois GAGNON born
1816 in La Perde, Quebec. He died in California in the
1930's. The GAGNON ancestors arrived in Quebec in 1634
from Perche, France along with their neighbors, the GUYON and
CLOUTIER familes. Louis Gagnon
married Parmelia Pomela DUMONT on 19 January 1882 in
Valleyfield, Quebec. Louis brought the family across the border into the US around 1890 and settled with Pearl
married Henry BANCHERO. They lived in West Seattle. I'm
(Kenneth Lindebak) fairly certain that Raymond was born in Quebec but I'm not sure about Herbert and
Louise-Mary. I know that Harvey and Pearl were born in Grand Forks. Pearl married Henry BANCHERO . They lived in West Seattle. See the Hoffman site for further descendents

other
Gagnons in Grand Forks North Dakota. On the US papers the
French names became GANGON and DUMOND.
2 F Parmelia
Pomela DUMONT, born on 3 December 1863 in ST. Stanislaus,
Quebec. She was the daughter to Augustine DUMONT and Marie
Calire Paillant PAYANT. Parmelia died on 6 February 1845
in Seattle, Washington, Calvary, Cemetery. She was called
"Parmala."
Louis and Parmelia
had five children: Raymond, Herbert, Louise-Mary, Harvey and Permelia-Laura. . +3 F Permelia
Laura GANGON born 6 October 1869 in Grand Forks, N.D. She
was known as "Pearl." She married Henry
Bancheor in Seattle on 18 Augist 1913. They had one
child, a daughter names June Margarte, born on 18
June, 1914. Pearl died on 12 December 1987 in Auburn,
Washington.. 5 M Raymond
GONGAN. He
is believed to have been born in Quebec. He changed his name to "Gonyea." 6 M Herbert GONGAN . 7 M Harvey
GANGON
was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He died on 15 November 1972 in Seattle, Washington He was married 2 times
and lived in West Seattle near Roy Hoffman. It is believed he had
one daughter with his first wife. He adopted two boys with his
second wife. I
(Kenneth Lindebak) am fairly certain that Raymond was born in Quebec but I'm not sure about Herbert and
Louise-Mary. I know that Harvey and Pearl were born in Grand Forks.
Upon coming into the US the English phonetic spelling of the French name
was used. Gagnon became Gangon on their papers, same as Dumont became
Dumond. I heard the same story that you did about Raymond changing his
name to Gonyea.
Louise-Mary went by Mary and was "Aunt Mary" to me. She was older than
Pearl and she did have one arm that was shorter than the other. Louis
Gangon's mother was Marie Rufiange and his grandmother was Louise
Julien. The Julien and Rufiange families were intermarried with the
Laberge family and they were very close. Word came through the Julien
and Rufiange relatives to the Gangons in Grand Forks that Nels Laberge,
who had moved to Seattle and was doing well as a logger, needed a wife.
Aunt Mary was sent to Seattle to become the wife of Nels Laberge whom
she had never met. After her marriage, she sent money to her folks in
Grand Forks to come to Seattle. That was around 1911. Louis and
Parmala with Harvey and Pearl came to Seattle, but I don't think that
Raymond and Herbert came out.
In Seattle, the Gangons rented a small upstairs apartment from the
Italian Navone family. The larger downstairs was rented to Martin and
"Nona" Banchero. Nona was a Navone. Martin and Nona had a son named
Henry Banchero who took a liking to the young auburn-red-haired Pearl
Gangon and on August 18, 1913 the 16 year old Pearl married Henry
Banchero. Their daughter June was born on June 18, 1914.
June and her grandmother Parmala were close. Parmala was a very devote
Catholic and made sure that religion was an important part of June's
life. Parmala never learned to speak English. She read a French bible
every day. June never had much to do with her grandfather Louis. The
family referred to him as a carpenter but in reality he was a casket
maker. He died in California in 1930 while visiting relatives down
there. Parmala died in 1945 in Seattle. I have pictures of me as a
newborn being held by Parmala.
Aunt Mary never had any children. After Nels died, she married a man
named John. I can't think of his name right now but I have it. They
lived in the Laberge house. Mary died in the 1950's. John died a few
years later. I believe Uncle Harvey had a daughter Jean-Marie
Gangon with his first wife. I think she moved to California and had two
kids but I'm not certain. Harvey and his second wife adopted two boys
Ross and Terry Gangon. Harvey died around 1972. My grandmother Pearl
died in 1987. +3 F Pearl GONGAN
