DR ADOLPHUS S FOWLER
BORN
Oct 2 1830
DIED
[obliterated] 7 1880
An attempt to patch the stone back together has had the unfortunate
side-effect of obliterating part of the date of death. This and
other photographs of the Fowler Family Plot in Ringgold were taken
by Ms. Karen Chastain of Chattanooga, TN, to whom many thanks.
The State Archives web page states that they have a collection of papers by Dr. Adolphus S. Fowler.
"Fowler, Adolphus Sherrard, M.D. Civil War Papers, 1862-1870. Catoosa, Greene, and McDuffie Co., Ga. Letters to his wife while he served as surgeon in the 39th Regt. GA Vols. Other papers relate to sanitary reports and election returns. Unpublished inventory available. (ac 47-008)"
0109.30 Update: Through the very kind efforts of Gerald D. Hodge, Jr. of Niota, TN, I have received copies of seventeen letters (either from or to Dr. A.S. Fowler) from the Georgia State Archives collection.
As the original letters were written in pencil, the copies are marginally readable. The one thing I can say for sure is that bad handwriting is apparently a Fowler family characteristic. Stay tuned for details.
