454, REV. DRURY ANDREW FOWLER
Rev. Drury A. Fowler, born c. 1798, South Carolina, died after 1860. He married Ann born c. 1795 SC, who died after 1860. He was the son of Joel and Sara Fowler, Spartanburg, SC. Drury and Ann Fowler were living in Walker County in 1850 and Ringgold in 1860. It is assumed that they are buried in unmarked graves in the wrought iron enclosed "Fowler" plot at Ringgold Citizens Cemetary. A small marker inscribed "A.M.F." (?Ann Fowler) is propped against the fence. One marker is inscribed "Edeth" and no dates. There are several unmarked graves in the "Fowler" plot. This old cemetary has numerous unmarked graves. Markers have been destroyed, deteriorated, broken and lost due to encroachment of houses nearby. Rev. Drury Fowler was a merchant, farmer and pastor of the first Ringgold Methodist Church.
Drury and Ann Fowler's children were: (1) Edward Fowler, born August 7, 1821 SC, died April 10, 1860. He married Maria (sic.) J. ____, born October 10, 1831 died April 10, 1913, buried Ringgold Citizen's Cemetary. Edward and Mariah J. Fowler's children were: a) Temperance Ovalene Fowler, born c. 1853, married Robert F. Smith. A daughter: Fannie Smith born June 4, 1878 died December 24, 1881, buried in Ringgold Citizen's Cemetary; also, a daughter, Forrest Fowler, married Matt Cooper. Matt and Forrest Cooper's soon, Bernard Cooper was editor of the Chattanooga Times; b) Claudia B. Fowler, born c. 1858, c) daughter, Shady Fowler, born c. 1865 and d) Mary Fowler, born c. 1868. The Edward Fowler family moved from McLemores Cove, Walker County, to Catoosa County between 1850-1860. The family lived near what is now Chickamauga National Military Park (created in 1890). He was a farmer and bookkeeper for Thorton-Sims Drygoods Store in Ringgold.
(2) Daulusky Fowler, born c. 1829, Georgia, died between 1864-1870 and married John Brumlow. Their three daughters were a) Leni Leoti Brumlow, born April 17, 1855 died March 15, 1895, buried Newnan Springs Cemetery, married William C. Ward, buried Peavine Cemetery, Walker Co. W.C. Ward m/2nd a sister of Leni Leota Ward; b) Flora Brumlow, born c. 1858 buried Forest Hills, Chattanooga, TN. She married May 11, 1882, W.H. Payne; c) Lily Brumlow, born c. 1864, TN. The Brumlow children were reared by Edward and Mariah J. Fowler.
(3) Dr. Adolphus Sherrard Fowler, born October 2, 1830 GA died October 7, 1880. He married Mary Jane Barry, born January 1831, GA, died after 1910, buried in unmarked graves at Ringgold Citizens Cemetery. Adolphus S. Fowler served as a surgeon in the Civil War. Mary Jane Barry Fowler was the daughter of Dr. Andrew Lawson Barry, born November 22, 1806 died March 6, 1892. He married Lancaster, SC, January 17, 1830, Margaret B. McDowell (Barry), born 1817, Mecklenburg Co., NC, died August 19, 1845, buried LaFayette Cemetery, Walker County (lived in Catoosa County near Walker County line). Adolphus S. and Mary Jane Fowler's children were: a) Annie Fowler, born 25 October 1860, died age 18 months, 18 days, buried Ringgold Citizens Cemetery; b) Tallulah Fowler, born July 21, 1861, died September 28, 1870, buried Ringgold Citizens Cemetery; c) Eugene W. Fowler, born c. 1865; c) Minnie L. Fowler, born January 1869, married Melvin Gardner; d) May Jennie Fowler, born c. 1871 married June 14, 1893, Roy N. Cole and moved to Newnan, GA and e) Hugh C. Fowler, born c. 1873. The Hugh C. Fowler home on Tennessee Street (Ringgold) burned in 1928 and the family moved to Atlanta; f) Jessie Fowler born October 1877, Married Jane A. ____.
(4) Joel A. Fowler, born September 23, 1823 died January 21, 1894. He married Sarah M. Shaw (Hardin), born March 2, 1828 died March 15, 1901, buried Antioch Cemetery, Walker County. Joel Fowler married 1st Serphina T. ____, born c. 1826. Sara (sic) M. Shaw m/1st William H. Hardin. Joel and Sarah Fowler's children were: a) Mary F. Fowler, born c. 1858 married Andrew Prairie Fricks; b) Martha E. Fowler, born c. 1859; c) Ada Fowler, born October 6, 1861 died September 7, 1889, married J.W. Meredith; d) Edward Fowler born c. 1864; e) Adolphus Fowler, born c. 1866 and f) William Fowler, born c. 1866.
William H. and Sarah Shaw Hardin's children were a) William J. Hardin, born c. 1846; b) Lucinda Susan Hardin, 1849-1881, buried Stone(?) Church Cemetery, married July 5, 1870, William Henry Payne.
Joel and Serphina T. Fowler's children were: a) Hilliard J. Fowler, born c. 1846, married Emily Jane Phillips; b) Eliza J. Fowler, born c. 1849 and c) Mariah Fowler born c. 1851.
