Linden Lewis

Services for Linden Lewis, 75, of Tennessee Colony, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday
at Tennessee Colony Church with the Rev. Ken Dodson and Joe Warren officiating.
Masonic graveside services will follow at Tennessee Colony Cemetery under the
direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens. Mr. Lewis died Saturday in a
Tyler hospital. He was born November 7, 1927, in Murchison to Floyd Benjamin and
Johnie Fay Lewis. Mr. Lewis, formerly a resident of Athens for 17 years, has lived
in Tennessee Colony for the past 26 years. He graduated from Brownsboro High School
in 1944 as valdictorian. He was a graduate of Henderson County Junior College,
Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University, Commercial Lending
School at Oklahoma University and attended Tyler Commercial College. Mr. Lewis was
a banker for 47 years having worked at Farmers Bank and First National Bank of Athens
where he served as president, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, he continued to
serve on the board of directors until 1999. He was a member of the Lions Club, Kiwanis
Club, Athens Masonic Lodge No. 165, Optimist Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Sharon
Temple Shrine, Tennessee Colony Church and served as president of the Tennessee Colony
Improvement Association. He currently was serving as vice president of the Farm Bureau
of Anderson County. Mr. Lewis served six years in the United States Navy and was Admiral
of the Texas Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents; and great granddaughter,
Olivia Hunt. Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ellon Lewis of Tennessee
Colony; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Steve Staines of Chandler, Judy Hudson
Trammell of Dallas, Martha Hudson and Bill Hester of Conroe, Mary Hudson and Jim Bunt
of Mesquite; son and daughter-in-law Mack and Crystal Hudson of Tennessee Colony; brothers
and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Lewis and Gerald Lewis, all of Murchison;
grandchildren, Stacy Trammell Hunt, Amy Trammell, William Mitchell Hudson, Camille Hudson,
Emily Staines, Jennifer Brown, Ashley Bunt, Will Bunt, John Hester; and great grandchildren,
Mason and Cameron Hunt. Pallbearers will be Hugh Dublin, A.C. Dawson, John Warren, Bradley
Henry, Mike Link and Mark Hudson. Honorary pallbearers will be officers and directors of
First National Bank, Athens; and all golfing buddies. Memorials may be made to Texas
Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 199300, Dallas, Texas, 75219-9842. Visitation
will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
