Leon Dupree

Leon Dupree, 75, of 1015 N. Fowler St., was pronounced dead on arrival at a local
hospital at 1 p.m. Wednesday following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be
held Friday at 10 a.m. in Hassell & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Maxwell James Webb
and the Rev. Don Pitman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park. Pallbearers
will be James Mullenax, Robert Williams, A.C. Murray, John Hatzenbuehler, T.J.
Lindsey, H.H. Vyskocil, Joe Billy Chambers and Roy Ward. A lifelong resident of
Anderson County, Mr. Dupree was born August 21, 1899 in Slocum to William Sterling
Dupree and Sally Belle Noble Dupree. A resident of Palestine over 50 years, he was
a member and deacon of the First Christian Church, and prior to retiring Sept 25 1964,
he had 44 years service with Texas Power & Light Company, having worked as a
storekeeper and meter reader. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jewell Griffin Dupree
of Palestine; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Charley Pearl) Sansom of Austin; three
grandchildren, Stephen Sansom and Philip Sansom, both of Austin, and Kay Sansom Bratz
of Longview, and numerous nieces and nephews.
