Johnnie Belle McDonald Ballard

Funeral services for Johnnie Belle McDonald Ballard will be at
2 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, the Rev.
James Lewis and the Rev. Ben Reily officiating. Burial will be
at Neches City Cemetery. Mrs. Ballard died Thursday at Anderson
County Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 8, 1894, in Neches.
a daughter of the late John Bethune McDonald and Susie America
Freeman McDonald. A delegate to the Democratic national convention
in 1952, she also served on the State Democratic Executive
Committee from 1952 until 1954. She served as Democratic precinct
chairman at the Neches box for a number of years. In that capacity,
she was a member of the Anderson County Democratic Executive
Committee. A teacher for almost 40 years, she taught classes in
Neches, Shreveport, Nacogdoches, Palestine and at Lon Morris
College in Jacksonville. Survivors include a brother, Brice N.
McDonald; two nieces, Mary Ann Nass and Johnnie Belle Faucett,
and five nephews, John B. McDonald, Malcolm E. McDonald, Brice H.
McDonald, Bethune F. McDonald and Robert L. McDonald. Nephews
will serve as pallbearers.
