O.A. "Bert" Wood

Services for O.A. "Bert" Wood, 82, of Mesquite, and formerly of the Pert
community, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Neches
with the Rev. Charles Grasty officiating. Burial will be in Mound Prairie
Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Mr. Wood died Wednesday
at Plano Specialty Hospital. He was born July 2, 1920, in Grapeland to
Tony Benjamin Westendorf and Grace Kiser Wood. Mr. Wood was a carpenter,
farmer and rancher in the Pert Community. He was a member of First Baptist
Church of Neches and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Maudie Irene Wood, in 1991. Mr. Wood is
survived by daughters, Judy Wood of Tyler and Karen Burkholder of Richardson;
sons, Gary G. Wood of Mesquite and Roger Dale Wood of Fort Worth; sister,
Dorothy Pendergrass of Waxahachie; seven grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Eric Kroner, Steven Wood, Bobby Thurston,
Mike Fort, John Rawlins, Jerry Fort, Kelly Rawlins and Tommy Stewart.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
