William T. Alexander Jr.

William T. Alexander Jr., retired general manager for the New York Central Railroad
in Syracuse, New York, died in Memorial Hosptial here at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday at the
age of 73. Mr. Alexander had made his home in Palestine since his retirement from
the railroad in 1965. Born April 20, 1900, in Water Valley, Mississippi, Mr. Alexander
was a son of the late W.T. and Virginia Wright Alexander. A graduate of Rice Institute
in Houston, he entered the engineering department of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in
1924. He married the former Miss Lucille Malloy of Palestine on June 21, 1927. Mr.
Alexander was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palestine and a member of
Hidalgo Masonic Lodge No. 1036 at Edinburg, Texas. He was on the State Board of
Registration for Professional Engineers and a member of the American Railroad Engineers
Association and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Funeral services are to be held
at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bailey Memorial Chapel here with the Rev. W.S. Blanton Jr.
officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be K.D.
Hestes, E.R. Chaney, O.C. Prewitt, J.F. Wolff, Joe Herrin and Wayne Eaves. Honorary
pallbearers include Dr. Fred E. Felder, Dr. E.W. Clawatter, Ed Joslin, Lacy Kendrick,
J.E. Montgomery, Howard Crouse and J.O. Parker. Mr. Alexander is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Lucille Malloy Alexander of 911 East Neches Street.
