Mrs. Ward

Mrs. Effie Harding Ward, 91, of Palestine, formerly of Montalba, died today
at 2:10 a.m. in a local nursing home following a long illness. Funeral services
will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Hassell & Foster Chapel. Burial will be in the
Concord Cemetery. The body will be at Hassell & Foster until after chapel rites.
Pallbearers will be the following grandsons; Mike Ward, John Ward, Jim Magee,
Bill Magee, George Magee, Jake Vannoy, G.W. Vannoy, David Recane and Marion Recane.
A native and lifelong resident of Anderson County, Mrs. Ward was born Dec. 30, 1881
at Concord to Bud Harding and Mrs. Nancy Jane Kelley Harding. Before moving to
Palestine in 1968, she lived in Concord and Montalba, and was a member of the
Montalba Baptist Church. Her husband, George W. Ward, preceded her in death on
October 24, 1955. Survivors are two sons, Roy Ward of Palestine, and Lloyd Ward of
Garland; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Marie Recane, Mrs. Ollie Wells and Mrs. Lucille
Cook, all of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Exie Green of Houston; 22 grandchildren;
numeraous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Theodore "Buster" Ward, and two
daughters, Mrs. Grace Seagler and Mrs. Cilla Vannoy. The family will receive
condolence calls at the Roy Ward residence, 118 Hillcrest Drive.
