H.C. Baker

Services for H.C. Baker, 70, of Broyles Chapel, will be at 3 p.m. Friday
in Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Skinner officiating.
Burial will be in Broyles Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Baker died Wednesday in the
Olin E. Teague Veterans Center in Temple. He was born Feb. 28, 1920, in
Bradford, a son of W.C. Baker and Alva Gage Baker. He was a heavy equipment
operator in the construction business. During World War II, he served as a
Technician Fourth Grade in the 279th Engineers Battalion of the Army from
April 2, 1942 until Nov 16, 1945. He also served overseas in the South
Philippines, Bismark, Northern Solomon Islands and Luzon. He was a Baptist
and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8924 in Palestine. He is
survived by his wife, Dessie Baker of Palestine; stepdaughter, Sue Morgan
of Crosby; stepsons, Elzie Brown and Floyd Morgan, both of Conroe; several
step grandchildren; and one step great grandchild. Pallbearers will be
Charlie Price, Elzie Brown, Marvin Ellis, Bob Ivy, Floyd Morgan and Mike Morgan.
