Emigrated on the barque "Birman" with Phoebe his wife and children,Ellen, Emma, Lucy, Julia, William and Frances Sophia Sailed from Gravesend, London on Oct 13th, 1841 and arrived at Port Nicholson (Wellington) on March 1st, 1842. The captain was John Cleland and the surgeon James Motherwell. The Birman was 545 tons built in Greenock in 1840 and owned by Adam & Co of Greenock until 1852 when it was sold to H Girvin of Liverpool.
John married Phoebe HOWLETT about 1831. (Phoebe HOWLETT was born about 1810 and died in 1877.)
