Cause of his death was Drowned.
In 1896 went for a walk saying he felt unwell and never returned. Missing for several days.
Family rumour that he took his own life but coroner's report suggests otherwise. Verdict of jury on
death certificate was "found drowned". See coroners report and Papers Past news clippings in
relation to this.
Body found in the Tutaekuri River near Onepoto gully by David Gray who was fishing there.
Buried Napier Cemetery. Grave unable to be located due to Napier earthquake which destroyed
his headstone and that of Mabel Isabel Tuffnell, there is no way of knowing which unmarked grave
is theirs (as none of the sites are indvidually recorded, people were buried in lots, eg lot A, B etc).
Arrived in NZ on the "Ocean Mail" in December 1876 at Wellington in steerage. See newspaper
