bullet  General Notes:

[Henry Dustin Auckland.FTW]
Henry came to NZ aged 7 years with his parents. Henry became a ships engineer, serving at one time on the 'Elingamite'. After marrying they lived at Graham St, Freemans Bay, Auckland where they reared their six children. The children attended Nelson St Primary School 1892-1894 which has since been demolished. Later they attended Napier St School 1896. Many of their children with very rounded shoulders. Sometime during World War 1 (1914-1918) they moved to Margaret St, Ponsonby. Three of their sons served in this war, Henry, Fred and George. In the early 1920's Henry won 100 pounds in a lottery and with it he bought some land in Westbourne Ave at Murrays Bay on Auckland's North Shore. For 60 pounds he had built a small kauri timber bach. Henry and Rosetta used the bach for weekends and holidays but it was not easily accessible due to limited transport. From Auckland city they would catch the ferry to Devonport, then the steam train (known as Puff'n Billy) to Milford where they would rely on Mr Lyons truck to transport them to Murrays Bay. Mr Lyons owned the store at Murrays Bay. Henry died from heart failure after which Rosetta moved permanently to Murrays Bay, renting the family home at Ponsonby to Phoebe although this did not give her sufficient money to live on. She survived by growing her own vegetables but eventually was persuaded by her son Fred to apply for the pension (ten shillings a week) and then lived fairly comfortably there until her death in 1952.
