Rev. Picton Williams FRANCIS
Named after Picton Castle, a favourite picnic spot of his parents. Granny F (Winifred ) never liked the name, but Mum did. Passport - 5'3", dark brown eyes. At time of marriage, living at Spring Villa, High Rd., North Finchley. Travelled extensively to Scandinavia, South America where he was later offered the bishopric of Buenos Aires, continental Europe, and the Holy Land.. He was at Jesus College, Cambridge with degree in Classics and was a blue, coxing an eight. Also did divinity degree at St David's, Lampeter. Was ordained 21 Dec 1895, St Thomas' Day, by Bishop Bickersteth, Exeter Cathedral. Curate for a year Torcross,Slapton and Stokenham; Rector 6 years Nth Finchley, London; Forest with Frith, upper Teesdale; New Shildon, Co Durham.and finally St Lawrences, Middleton one Row, Co Durham. Also ship's chaplain on vessels to and from South America. Picton married Winifred WEAVER, daughter of Thomas Jesse WEAVER and Clarice GARNETT, on 14 Sep 1904 in Christchurch,North.Finchley,Middlesex,England. (Winifred WEAVER was born on 2 Jun 1880 in Finsbury Park,Clapham Jcn,Raynes Park,London,England and died on 7 Aug 1960 in Middleton-One-Row,Durham,England.) |
