THE FIRE AT CARTERTON.
ANOTHER HOUSE BURNT. (FROM OUR OWN CORRBSPONDBNT.) [By Telegraph.] CARTERTON. Ist February.
Another dwelling was destroyed yesterday by tbe fire from the bush. The estimated damage is £300. The bush fires are now going out, and no further immediate danger if apprehended. FURTHER PARTICULARS. Mr. Philip Gooden's dwelling was burnt down yesterday It was insured for £150, which amount would not replace the seven roomed house. Only a couple of blankets and some bedding were saved. The furniture and stores were all lost. Mr. Gooden estimates his loss at between £400 and £500. The fire apparently was the result of pure accident, as no bush fires were within a long way of the house. For the last few weeks Carterton bas been surrounded by bush fires, and it has required constant attention to save numbers of houses, Mr. Goodin's among the number, but every thing looked safe yesterday at the latter place that most of the family went away from home, leaving the place in charge of three of the children quite capable of taking care of themselves It appears they were also a short distance away in the bush, and when they returned the place was in a blaze.
